Chapter 408

Shi Yaoโ€™s brow furrowed deeper, eyes darkening, lips pressed into a thin line.

Alarieka scanned the chaotic data on her screen, clicking her tongue in irritation: โ€œSpit it out already. Since when do you hesitate like this? Itโ€™s agonizing to watch.โ€

Shi Yaoโ€™s eyes darkened further.

You think youโ€™re more anxious than me?

He inhaled sharply, snatched the tissue with a scowl, and thoroughly wiped the water away.

Alarieka kept her eyes glued to the data, tilting her chin up: โ€œMake sure itโ€™s spotless.โ€

Shi Yaoโ€™s expression soured. He crumpled the tissue and hurled it precisely into the trash bin.

Silence fell across the desk. Alarieka assumed heโ€™d left.

Then shadows shiftedโ€”someone blocked the sunlight streaming through the floor-to-ceiling window beside her.

Alarieka glanced up, eyebrows lifting slightly.

Shi Yao stood beside her, staring down impassively.

She barely acknowledged him, returning to the data curves: โ€œSay whatever else you need to. Then report to tech. If there are program issues, Old Yang will consult you. Otherwise, do as you please.โ€

โ€œAlarieka.โ€

His voice held an unsettling calm.

Distractedly, she hummed: โ€œGo on.โ€

โ€œDo you still not understand what Iโ€™m saying?โ€

Alarieka couldnโ€™t fathom his fixation: โ€œI know you werenโ€™t dating that girl. The pajamas were new, you threw them out. I misunderstood your relationship. My apologies. Satisfied?โ€

โ€œAnything else?โ€

She asked absently.

โ€œYes.โ€

Her fingers danced across the keyboard, indifferent. โ€œThen speak.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t ever misunderstand me again.โ€

Alarieka raised an eyebrow: โ€œFine. What else?โ€

Suddenly, a hand shot out, gripping her chin and forcing her face upwardโ€”plunging her into Shi Yaoโ€™s fierce, penetrating gaze.

She froze, bewildered: โ€œโ€ฆWhat are you doing?โ€

Lips pressed tight, expression thunderous, his tone turned rough: โ€œRemember thisโ€”I already have someone I like. Donโ€™t get any ideas.โ€

โ€œSomeone you like?โ€

Understanding dawned, her gaze turning complex.

Chapter 408

Alarieka and Victor had never noticed any girl close to Victor all this timeโ€”not a single one, except for that girl today.

Could Victor actually like someone?

No way.

It wasnโ€™t baseless suspicion.

When Victor said those words, his face looked as sour as spoiled milk, his tone aggressive like a challenge, his temper flaringโ€”nothing about it suggested romance. It felt like outright provocation, as if he might throw a punch any second.

Alarieka wanted to press for details, doubting Victorโ€™s sincerity.

But given sheโ€™d misunderstood his relationship with that girl earlier, and Victor clearly minded her assumptionโ€”plus, despite his foul mood, his ears flushed bright redโ€”he probably wasnโ€™t lying.

Alarieka nodded earnestly. โ€œAlright, I understand.โ€

She got it: if Victorโ€™s crush became his girlfriend, sheโ€™d dislike knowing his friends once suspected him with someone else.

Curiosity nudged Alarieka. โ€œWho is it? Iโ€™ve never seen you close to any girl.โ€

Victorโ€™s expression twisted instantly, though his tone stayed sharp. โ€œYou know who.โ€

Alarieka pointed at herself, baffled. โ€œI know?โ€

Victor stared her down.

Alarieka paused, then a name clicked.

Chapter 408

As suspicion dawned, her face contorted worse than Victorโ€™s.

Victorโ€™s eyes widened, gleaming with something like hope.

Alarieka couldnโ€™t grasp the logic, her thoughts churning. Hesitantly, she ventured, โ€œYou couldnโ€™t possibly likeโ€ฆโ€

Victor stepped closer.

Alarieka thought, How could that be? but forced out, โ€œItโ€™s notโ€ฆ Jaylene, is it?โ€

The moment she spoke, Victorโ€™s face darkened like roadkill. His eyes blazed at her, lips trembling as if ready to bite her head off.

So not Jaylene.

Alarieka panicked, terrified heโ€™d quit his job at her place over this.

She backpedaled fast. โ€œDonโ€™t be mad if Iโ€™m wrong! You never mention other female friendsโ€”Jaylene was my only guess.โ€

Victorโ€™s glare didnโ€™t soften. His whole body radiated Back offโ€”Iโ€™m furious.

He growled, โ€œYou have no idea.โ€

Alarieka murmured, โ€œIโ€™m sorry.โ€
