She watched his face closely.
Remarkably, Victor’s scowl eased. His anger melted into smugness, pride, shyness, and satisfaction, a grin tugging his lips.

Sean snorted a few times: “That’s nice to hear, but the rest isn’t so great.”
Alarieka smiled and obliged: “If you like hearing it, I can say a few more things.”
She was just being polite and didn’t think Sean would actually ask for more. Who knew he was so shameless? Maybe he really liked that unknown girl.

Alaricka’s face fell.

The knocking came suddenly from the door. Without hesitation, Alaricka called them in.

It was Ms. Parker and Zoey.
Alaricka straightened her expression: “What is it?”

Alarieka’s eyes flickered: “Speak.”
Zoey said: “Mr. Argent from Kierose Group wants you to discuss it in person.”
Alarieka frowned slightly: “Did Kieran—did Mr. Argent say that himself?”
Zoey shook her head: “No, I never got to speak with Mr. Argent. His assistant said it, but it should represent his meaning.”
The office fell silent for a moment. Zoey added: “The assistant said Mr. Argent will be here on business the day after tomorrow. He’ll have time in the afternoon. You can schedule it then.”
Alarieka said: “So they’re still inclined to sell the Black and White Rabbit copyright?”
Zoey shook her head helplessly: “I’ve been contacting Kierose Group since I got the task, but so far they haven’t given a clear signal. Mr. Argent won’t talk to me. You might have to handle this.”
Alaricka said flatly: “Got it. You can go.”
After Ms. Parker and Zoey left, the office fell quiet again.
Unlike the weird awkwardness before, this time both were lost in thought, troubled, the atmosphere heavy.
Sean’s good mood vanished when he heard Kieran’s name. A surge of irritation welled up in his chest, pounding. His temples throbbed. He felt uncomfortable all over, so annoyed he wanted to flip the world upside down.
