Chapter 423
Countless photos, countless stories, innumerable records โ all bore Shi Yaoโs presence.
Meaning, over these five years, someone had already replaced Kieranโs position.
A young man and woman spending five years together โ whatever developed between them was only natural.
The assistant couldnโt pinpoint Kieranโs exact feelings toward Alarieka after all this time. But judging by current events, Kieran still cared. Otherwise, he wouldnโt have ordered exhaustive investigations into every detail of Alariekaโs past five years.
โThatโs Shi Yao,โ Kieran suddenly spoke, his voice low.
The assistant nodded: โYes.โ
Kieran gave an unreadable chuckle. The assistantโs heart lurched, his head bowing lower.
Not far off, Alarieka and the young man bent over the car engine, examining it intently. Their bodies leaned close โ intimate proximity reserved for deeply connected relationships.
Kieran watched impassively, his eyes revealing nothing.
The assistant glanced at his watch and repeated, โMr. Argent, your meeting with Mr. Kรกng is in an hour. His flight departs in two hours, and he wonโt be available again until next month.โ
Kieran ignored the question. โCheck whatโs happening.โ
The assistant paused before responding, โYes, Mr. Argent.โ
He took a few steps, then halted upon noticing Kieran following. โMr. Argent?โ
Kieran tilted his chin. โKeep walking.โ
The assistant stammered, โOhโฆ oh, right.โ
โMs. Huston.โ
Alarieka, already irritated by her carโs unexplained malfunction, turned with a stern expression.
The assistant hesitated. โMs. Huston, do you need assistance?โ
Alariekaโs gaze shifted to Kieran behind the assistant. Her brow relaxed as she replied casually, โThanks, but Iโm fine.โ
Shi Yao turned more slowly than Alarieka. When she lifted her head, she instantly sensed a piercing gaze.
The gazes of two men collided, locking in a prolonged stare where neither looked away first.
One pair of eyes was dark and profound, utterly unreadable; the other, brown with a light blue shimmer, remained equally composed and unwavering.
Two exceptionally handsome men standing on the street inevitably drew attention.
Alarieka stood between them, head bowed as she watched Glenn busying himself with the car. She remained oblivious to the near-sparking tension in the menโs locked stares beside her.
Only Kieranโs assistant noticed the intensity, holding his breath, not daring to make a sound.
A soft chuckle suddenly reached Alariekaโs ears. Already irritated by the broken car and Kieranโs inexplicable decision to approach her, she snapped without looking up, โWhatโs so funny?โ
A wave of warmth pressed against her arm. Alariekaโs eyes flickered as Shiyao leaned in close, murmuring with intimate proximity, โSo this must be Mr. Argent?โ
Alarieka gave him a strange look. โYeah.โ
Didnโt Shiyao already know that?
Shiyaoโs smile was casual, his eyes holding a thin veneer of amusement. โMr. Argent, I forgot to introduce myself. Iโm Shiyao, Alariekaโs friend.โ
Kieran gave a curt nod. โKieran Argent.โ
Alarieka was concentrating on figuring out why the car wouldnโt start when an arm slid around her shoulders from the side.
Shiyao pressed against her shamelessly. โAlarieka, this is on you.โ
Alarieka rubbed her temples. โWhat nonsense are you spouting now?โ
Shiyao tsked in disapproval. โEven though weโre close, you should still give me some social status in public.โ
Alarieka rolled her eyes slightly. โFine, social status granted. What did I do wrong this time?โ
Kieran watched the two pressed together, his expression and gaze utterly unmoving, as if he didnโt know Alarieka or Shiyao at all.
Shiyao grinned. โSince you asked so sincerely, Iโll answer you sincerely.โ
Alarieka cut in. โCut the crap.โ
Shiyao turned, poking her forehead with a finger. โLook at you. Partnering with Mr. Argent and youโre not even prepared properly. In a few days, itโs Mr. and Mrs. Argentโs fifth wedding anniversary. Did you even get them an anniversary gift?โ
