Chapter 455
With every challenge, Roseโs expression grew more smugly apologetic.
Alarieka wasnโt blindโshe saw Roseโs hostility. Nor was her heart numbโshe tasted the meaning behind Kieranโs repeated dodges.
She wasnโt stubborn. Sheโd never force hands.
Had Kieran intended to sell, sheโd never have returned to the Argentโs villa. Black-White Rabbit mattered for her new project, but if he refused, sheโd pivot. No putting all eggs in one basket.
But if heโd lured her here under false pretenses? That crossed the line.
Alarieka demanded: โWell, Mr. Argent? Still silent?โ
Clarissa suddenly brushed past her, approaching Kieran. She tickled Qiyuanโs chin: โBrother, just tell her straight. Spare us her shameless visitsโtheyโre tiresome.โ
โYou said that?โ Kieran suddenly asked Clarissa in a much lower voice.
Clarissaโs heart skipped a beat. Since Alarieka left, the Argent family had become much quieter, and even her brother treated her better. She hadnโt heard such a stern tone from Kieran in a long time.
Confused and nervous, she asked: โโฆBrother, canโt you tell me?โ
โSo you really donโt want to sell it to me?โ Alarieka inquired.
Kieran didnโt answer directly, just looked at her and said, โYou should head back first.โ
โI see,โ Alarieka smiled faintly. โMr. Argent, you never cease to amaze me.โ
Kieranโs sharp brows furrowed slightly, his thin lips parting as if to speak. Alarieka waited a moment, but no words came from Kieran.
Roseโs grin stretched nearly to her temples, while Clarissa watched with pitying eyes.
Alarieka nodded, her voice calm. โWell then, goodbye.โ She tossed out the words, turned, and leftโclean break, no lingering.
Rose pressed her lips into a smile. โKieran, Alariekaโs got quite the temper, but donโt take it personally. She doesnโt grasp how vital Black-White Rabbit is to us. Let it go for now. Take Yuanyuan home to sleep, alright?โ
After a pause, Kieran grunted in acknowledgment.
Roseโs eyes curved like crescent moons.
Once Alarieka got in the car, Shiyao slid in right after.
Leaning forward, Shiyao studied Alariekaโs face quietly. It appeared composed. But Shiyaoโwho claimed to know Alarieka better than anyone aliveโcouldnโt miss her terrible mood.
His voice softened. โAngry?โ
Alariekaโs tone was level, yet undeniably stiff. โA little.โ
Shiyao chuckled lowly, shifting closer until his arm draped over her shoulder. โSee? Told you old geezers canโt be trusted. Someone young and handsome like meโthatโs who you should lean on.โ
He laughed lightly, half-serious. โJust say the word, and Iโll work for you forever. Us Shis? Loyalty and devotionโsecond to none.โ
Alarieka clicked her tongue. โGive it a rest. You donโt even have a job. Howโd you work for me?โ
Shiyao tsked louder. โWhy the disrespect? Donโt you know the world changes?โ
Alarieka brushed him off. โTalk after you find real work.โ Over the years, sheโd watched Shiyao vanish and reappear without warningโhardly reliable.
Shiyao fell silent briefly before muttering, โStop looking down on people.โ
Fresh off learning Black-White Rabbitโs game rights were beyond her reach, Alarieka lacked energy to bicker.
Suddenly, weight settled on her shoulder. She glanced sidewaysโShiyaoโs big head resting there again.
Alarieka nearly shoved it into orbit. โHey! Iโm the one needing support here. Whatโs this?โ
Shiyao nuzzled her shoulder shamelessly, mumbling, โJust borrowingโฆ just for a sec. Donโt be stingy. Laterโฆ you can lean on me.โ
Alarieka rolled her eyes in resignation.
Silence filled the car. As Alarieka focused on work messages, Shiyaoโs voice cut through.
โHey, Alarieka? Meant what I said. Need help? Iโm here. If you just say the wordโฆโ His tone drifted carelessly, like an unconsidered throwaway line.
Alarieka almost doubted her ears.
She tilted her head to look, but could only see the top of Shi Yaoโs head and his prominent nose bridge, unable to make out his expression.
