Chapter 456

After a long silence, she blurted out: โ€œHave you lost your mind?โ€

Shi Yao was genuinely infuriated by Alarieka. These words had taken him ages to muster courage forโ€”his heart nearly exploded from pounding, palms sweating with nerves. To hide his vulnerability, heโ€™d even rested his head on her shoulder while rehearsing the confession internally. And after such sincerityโ€ฆ Alarieka accused him of losing his mind?!

Shi Yao laughed bitterly: โ€œIโ€™m serious. Donโ€™t brush it off.โ€

Alarieka tapped her phone keyboard: โ€œArenโ€™t you just working for me this month? Why the drama?โ€

Damn this clueless straight girl. Shouldโ€™ve known better than getting sentimental with her. Wasted effort! Totally wasted! Shi Yao screamed internally.

He sat upright abruptly, turning with a stern face: โ€œListen. Your Bunny Gang project lacks a launch theme. Since Blackโ€“White Rabbit fell through, I can recommend an alternative.โ€

At the mention of work, Alarieka finally glanced his way. โ€œYou have connections? Go on.โ€

Shi Yao snorted: โ€œKnow that Game City movie overseas?โ€

Alarieka pondered: โ€œThe one with rabbits as masterminds?โ€

โ€œRight.โ€

She frowned: โ€œForget it. The director never licensed anything. Impossible.โ€

โ€œTsk.โ€ Shi Yao clicked his tongue. โ€œGiving up without trying?โ€

Alarieka had tried. Bold and ambitious, sheโ€™d targeted that cinematic collab from the start. Sheโ€™d emailed the production company repeatedlyโ€”no replies ever came. She even flew overseas to visit their headquartersโ€ฆ only to face rejection. Hence settling for lesser brands.

โ€œEasy for you to say,โ€ Alarieka muttered. โ€œThey ignored me completely.โ€

Shi Yao lifted his chin: โ€œWhich is why I saidโ€”maybe lean on me sometimes.โ€

Her eyes sharpened: โ€œYou have a lead?โ€

He leaned closer, gaze deepening as his voice softened: โ€œGive me a kiss, and Iโ€™ll tell you.โ€

Alariekaโ€™s brain short-circuited: โ€œHuh?โ€

Smirking, Shi Yao tilted his cheek and tapped it, his tone husky: โ€œRight hereโ€™s enough.โ€

He shut his eyes expectantly, drifting toward her lips until mere centimeters apart. Alarieka replayed his words, waiting for comprehension to fully register. His cheek hovered dangerously closeโ€”her heartbeat stuttered. Suddenly remembering, she snapped her gaze to the rearview mirror. The driverโ€™s gossip-hungry eyes met hers before darting away, feigning nonchalance.

Alarieka didnโ€™t answer after Shi Yao waited for what felt like ages. Moments later, her light breath brushed against his ear as she whispered: โ€œBelieve it or not, Iโ€™ll slap you?โ€

A soft smackโ€”Alariekaโ€™s palm barely touched Shi Yaoโ€™s cheek.

โ€œGet lost,โ€ she said.

Shi Yao straightened up, cupping his cheek with theatrical pouting. But in his mind: Damn, that felt good.

Shi Yaoโ€™s eyes lit up playfully as he nudged his cheek closer. โ€œHit me again?โ€

Alarieka Huston smiled. โ€œI misspoke earlier. Forget workโ€”you should get your head examined first.โ€

Unfazed by her sarcasm, Shi Yao leaned in further. โ€œSeriously, give me another slap.โ€

That earlier strike had felt inexplicably electricโ€”like lightning meeting dry tinder, a pagoda taming river demons, mushrooms stewed with chickenโ€ฆ His whole body tingled, cheeks buzzing. He craved a repeat.

Alarieka replied to a work message before pausing. โ€œLittle master, settle down.โ€

After a brief silence, Shi Yao suddenly whispered, โ€œRioโ€™s in town. Right here in this city.โ€

Alarieka stiffened. โ€œHe came to China?โ€

Shi Yao crossed his arms, lazily eyeing her. โ€œNow youโ€™ll listen?โ€

Setting her phone down, Alarieka adopted a serious expression. โ€œGo on.โ€

Seeing her attentive pose, Shi Yao couldnโ€™t resist pinching her cheek.

โ€œTch.โ€ He instantly withdrew his hand. โ€œSince learning you visited the Argent family for game rights, Iโ€™ve tracked Game Cityโ€™s movements. Rioโ€™s scouting Chinese actors here. My friendโ€™s on his crewโ€”I can get his schedule if youโ€™re interested.โ€

โ€œWhy didnโ€™t you mention this sooner?โ€ Alariekaโ€™s gaze turned complex. โ€œShi Yao, what exactly do you do?โ€
