Chapter 5
A servant stood at the door, sounding a bit snobby. โMs. Huston, Mr. Argent is pretty drunk. He says he wants some pumpkin soup. Can you get up and make it for him?โ
Alaricka lowered her eyes.
In her past life, she used to make pumpkin soup for Kieran whenever he got home from a night out, trying to make him happy. Maybe that was why he started treating her like another servant. But now, she didnโt want to be a servant anymore.
She lay back down and closed her eyes. โYou guys make it for him.โ
The servant looked puzzled and a bit annoyed as she stared at the lump in the bed.
She thought, โAlaricka is just the daughter of Sir Argentโs driver. Why should I have to do what she said?โ
โMs. Huston, this is something you should be doing,โ she pressed.
But Alaricka ignored her.
After a while, the servant glared at the lump in the bed and slowly closed the door.
Kieran stepped out of his room after taking a shower and noticed the kitchen light on downstairs, with the faint clatter of bowls and pots. He closed his eyes, raised his hand, and rubbed his temple with his knuckles to ease the discomfort from drinking.
Without giving it much thought, he went downstairs and sat on the living room sofa, closing his eyes to rest.
Five minutes later, the servant came out of the kitchen with a bowl of pumpkin soup and put it in front of him. โMr. Argent, the soup is a bit hot. Be careful.โ
Hearing a voice that was totally different from what he expected, Kieran opened his eyes and looked at the servant. His brow furrowed a little. โWhat are you doing here?โ
The servant carefully watched his face, a flash of malice in her eyes. She thought, โThis job should have been Alarickaโs. She passes the buck, and now I have to serve Mr. Argent.โ
โMs. Huston wonโt budge. Iโve called her over and over. Mr. Argent, you gotta lay down the law. She canโt keep this up.โ
Hearing this, Kieran looked towards Alarickaโs room. Her door faced the living room directly and was clearly visible. It was tightly closed. Just as the servant had said, she seemed to be asleep.
Kieran picked up the bowl, looking calm and indifferent. โGot it.โ
He took a sip, and his brow furrowed.
The servant got worried. โMr. Argent, doesnโt it taste good?โ
Kieran took another sip but didnโt say anything.
The taste was definitely different.
Alaricka had been with the Argent family since she was fourteen. Half a year later, she started making this pumpkin soup for him. She liked sweet stuff and assumed everyone else did too, so she added a lot of sugar to the soup, making it quite sweet.
Kieran didnโt like sweet things and had a hard time getting used to them at first. He didnโt want to be too harsh because Alaricka was still young, so he tried to gently tell her to stop making it. But she didnโt seem to get the hint and kept making it.
After a while, he got used to the sweet soup.
This bowl of soup was pretty bland, and he didnโt like it. He took a couple of sips and put it down.
The servant was surprised and looked at him carefully. โMr. Argent, arenโt you gonna eat anymore?โ She was a bit nervous because he looked kind of upset. But she had tasted it just now, and it was okay.
Kieran nodded and went upstairs.
