Chapter 6
At first, the servant didnโt notice where he was going, but when she heard the door open, she got a shock. She looked up and saw him opening Alariekaโs room. It was like she had seen some big secret, and she quickly lowered her head and went into the kitchen with the bowl.
Hearing some rustling by her ear, Alarieka groggily opened her eyes. In the dim light, she saw a tall, dark figure sitting at the desk. For a second, her heart almost jumped out of her chest. Once she got a good look at the personโs face, she sat up in bed. โKieran?โ
Kieran put the book he was holding on the desk and turned to look at her. His sharp, cold face was hidden in the dim light, and his narrow eyes were intense. Alarieka clutched the blanket, her eyes wary. โKieran, what are you doing here?โ Kieran suddenly stood up and got right up close to her, looking down at her with a tone that was hard to read. โWhat did you call me?โ โWhat?โ Alarieka didnโt get it at first. Kieran grabbed her chin, pinched her soft skin with his fingertips, and tilted her face up. โAlarieka.โ His voice was cold, and his eyes looked kind of gloomy. โWhatโs with the attitude?โ Alarieka suddenly got what he was talking about. She had called him โKieranโ instead of the usual โKier.โ She tried to keep her voice steady. โNothing. Iโm tired and wanna sleep.โ Kieran let out a soft snort and tightened his grip on her chin. โDo you really think Iโll buy that?โ Alarieka felt that she had to make things clear with Kieran and put some space between them to avoid any more trouble.
โMy mom said the wrong thing this afternoon. I apologize for her. It wasnโt what I thought.โ In the dark, her voice was resolute, and her eyes were clear. โKier, from now on, Iโll be more sensible and wonโt bother you anymore. You can trust me. I didnโt mean to seduce you or anything.โ These words were hard for her to say, but she managed to get them out. Kieran suddenly let go, grabbed a book from the desk, and tossed it in front of her. The book lay open, and Alarieka saw pages filled with Kieranโs name, written in her neat handwriting. Her breath caught, and her face turned a bit pale. She had written that before she was reborn. She hadnโt had time to destroy it, and now Kieran had seen it. Kieran grabbed her chin again, his piercing gaze fixed on her eyes, his voice icy. โBefore you lie, make sure to cover your tracks.โ With that, he left.
Alarieka wasnโt sleepy anymore. She grabbed the book and tore out all the pages with Kieranโs name, shredding them into pieces. A year ago, things werenโt so bad between them. When she first got to the Argentโs villa, he was the one who showed her around. Heโd listen to her talk and even bring her warm milk at night. He was like a cool older brother. But everything changed when Roschelle came back. Alarieka would never forget how Roschelle showed Kieran the love letters she had written in secret, then clung to him like a beautiful and sexy python. Kieran, who was always calm and steady, let her wrap her fair arms around his neck in public, and he didnโt stop the gossip and rumors flying around. Roschelle whispered, โKier, I donโt like it when girls who have a crush on you are hanging around, even if sheโs just a high school student."
