โDebra, can you stop this?โ Juan said coldly, standing protectively in front of Shella.
Debra didnโt want to argue. She warned him bluntly, โIf you donโt want Grandma to see these photos, youโd better do as I say.โ
Juan narrowed his eyes. โWhat do you want?โ
โI want you to leave the Mathis family alone and compensate them.โ
She knew an apology from Juan was impossible. Apologies were cheap. Compensation, however, was much better.
Juan replied icily, โFat chance!โ
โFine! Iโll let Grandma see these photos and learn youโve deceived her. Sheโll know you came out with me today just to meet Shelia,โ Debra said. โI have nothing to lose. But Sheliaโฆ Grandma has already cut off all her scholarships and allowances. I canโt imagine what will happen to her if these photos end up in Grandmaโs hands.โ
Shella turned pale with fright.
โAre you threatening me?โ
โHell yeah!โ Debra had no intention of wasting her breath on Juan. She had the evidence, and she was fully capable of using it.
โJuanโฆโ Shelia looked at him with teary eyes.
Sensing her distress, Juan said, โWhat kind of compensation do you want?โ
โThe Mathis familyโs losses should be repaid double, and from now on, you canโt cause them any more trouble.โ
โFine!โ Juan agreed quickly, clearly for Shellaโs sake. He couldnโt bear to see her suffer more.
โGet the finance department to handle it now. I want to see the results today.โ
โDo you have to be so aggressive?โ
โThatโs how Iโve always been. This isnโt the first day youโve known me.โ
Juan was speechless. He eventually called the finance department.
Shelia sobbed, โItโs all my fault. If I hadnโt come to see you, Debra wouldnโt have found a reason to threaten you, and you wouldnโt have suffered these losses.โ
Debra sneered at Shellaโs display without saying anything.
โItโs not your fault,โ Juan comforted Shelia, shooting a pointed glance at Debra. A moment later, Debra received a message from Erica confirming the crisis was resolved. Satisfied, Debra said to Juan, โThank you for your generosity, Mr. Nichols. You guys go ahead and shop. Iโll head off.โ
She casually turned to leave.
Juan called after her, โErica is just an outsider. Youโll regret this.โ
โLetโs see who regrets it first,โ Debra said, glancing meaningfully at Shelia.
Juan couldnโt decipher the meaning behind that look. Shelia continued to act frail and weepy.
Debra left the mall and drove off.
