“Watch your mouth. This is Mrs. Nichols Sr.,” Joe chided, standing beside Melody. The officers recognized him and fell silent.

“Where are you keeping Juan? Release him now!” Melody demanded, disregarding her manners.

Pedro appeared, smiling nervously. “Mrs. Nichols Sr., what brings you here so late?”

“Juan was taken by your people. Why do you think I’m here?”

“Well, this is tricky. He injured Mr. Houston, which should be handled through legal procedures. He is in our interrogation room. If you want to see him, I can arrange that.”

“Mr. Houston? Since when does he rule Seamar City? Juan would never do anything illegal. It must be a setup.”

It was known to all that Marion used to be an outlaw. Framing someone was easy for him.

Suddenly, a voice rang out from behind her.

“A setup? Marion is injured by him; Juan tried to attack me. If Marion hadn’t saved me, I’d be the one in the hospital,” Debra accused.

Melody turned to look at her. “It was you. I knew it. Juan did so much for you, even giving up his company. He would never hurt you. This is nothing but a scheme designed by Marion and you.”

Debra retorted, “Anyway, Juan has committed a crime. You’re not here to bend the law, are you?”

“The Nichols Group is a major taxpayer in Seamar City,” Melody said. “And many people are jealous of Juan for his position. I raised him, and I know he’d never kill anyone.”

Debra turned to Pedro. “Mr. Hardy, your people saw Juan attack me, right?”

“Yes, we all saw it,” Pedro confirmed.

Melody tried to argue, but Debra spoke first. “They say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. You hired a hitman, and Juan learned from you.”

Melody was pissed off, but Debra was relentless. “Am I wrong? I have witnesses and evidence. You can’t deny it.”

Joe leaned in and whispered to Melody, “If we stay, Debra might expose the details of the hitman incident. Things could get tricky. We’d better leave now and come back for Mr. Nichols tomorrow.”

Melody said reluctantly, “Fine, I won’t argue with you today. But mark my words, when Juan is out, you’ll regret this.”

She then led Joe to leave the police station.
