Chapter 1018
Once they were gone, Debra asked, โIs Juan in the interrogation room?โ
โYes, heโs being questioned right now,โ Pedro replied. โItโs not a good time for visitors.โ
Debra fell silent. She had rushed from the hospital to find out why Juan had acted like that. He wasnโt the type to lose control or try to kill someone so recklessly. Something was not right.
โThen Iโll wait here until heโs done,โ she said, sitting down in a nearby chair.
Pedro faltered. โWell, the interrogation could take all night, and I heard Mr. Houston is injured. Shouldnโt you take care of him? Iโll let you know the results first thing tomorrow morning.โ
Debra was indeed worried about Marionโs injuries. If the police station werenโt so close to the hospital, she wouldnโt have taken the time to come here.
Now that waiting seemed pointless, she stood up and said, โAlright, please keep me posted. Iโll be next door at the hospital.โ
โOf course, Iโll send someone to handle that,โ Pedro replied.
Once Debra was gone, he wiped the sweat off his forehead. From the corner, Barton stepped out and said, โMr. Andrew Potterโs car is outside. Just let Juan go through the back door.โ
โWhat if Mrs. Houston asks about this tomorrow? What am I supposed to say?โ
โJust tell her the Nichols family paid for his release.โ
Pedro nodded and ordered his team to escort Juan out through the back door.
At the hospital, Marionโs surgery was over. William reminded him, โFor now, no strenuous activity, no spicy food, and stick to light meals. Other than that, youโre fine. Oh, and when I say no strenuous activity, I mean in both senses.โ
Randy chimed in, โMan, getting that late-night call scared the life out of me. Turns out it was just a small folding knife. Had I worried for nothing.โ
William echoed, โNo kidding. This guy was still whining about the pain in the ambulance.โ
Just then, Debra knocked on the door. William and Randy exchanged a knowing glance.
โOh, I just remembered Erica wants some snacks. Iโll go grab some for her.โ
โIโm coming with you.โ
They shoved each other out of the room. Debra walked to the bed and looked at Marionโs bandaged body. โSounds like itโs nothing serious.โ
โWho said that? It hurts like hell,โ Marion replied, putting on a dramatic frown. Pointing to the wound on his abdomen, he added, โA little lower, and weโd be kissing our happy future goodbye.โ
โYour kidneys are higher up. This is nowhere near them.โ
Since Marion could still joke around, Debra knew he was fine. She poked him in the chest and said with a playful glare, โIf you scare me like this again, Iโll bite you.โ
