Chapter 1021
Juan was never one to run from a fight. Yet, Barton looked serious.
โIf you donโt believe me, you can go and ask the police. Juan has fled. Mr. Andrew Potter has sent people to track him down. As long as he doesnโt leave Seamar City, everything is still in control.โ
โHoney, is the car here yet?โ Marion limped into view behind her.
Barton fought back the urge to laugh and said, โMr. Andrew Potter has instructed me to escort you both home.โ
โOh, much appreciated,โ Marion replied, tossing his cane to Barton.
He grabbed Debraโs arm and said, โWalking is hard for me. Be my crutch, honey.โ
She glanced at his hand. โBehave yourself. Donโt make me slap you.โ
Knowing she was still mad at him, Marion turned back to Barton. โSheโs not in a great mood. Donโt mention anything thatโll upset her. Go bring the car around.โ
Once Barton left, Marion leaned heavily on Debra, his voice soft and dramatic. โIโm really too weak to walk.โ
Debra sighed and helped steady him. โJuan being picked up by his family doesnโt add up. I scared Melody away last night. How could she head back and bail him out? And knowing Juan, heโd never just run away.โ
โUh, talking about your ex-husband in front of me. Arenโt you afraid Iโll get jealous?โ
โWould you stop being jealous if I didnโt bring him up? Iโm just stating the facts.โ
โTrue, youโve got nothing to hide.โ
Debra frowned. โDonโt change the subject. Do you know something?โ
Marion sighed, โI figured youโd piece it together eventually.โ
โDonโt play coy. Whatโs going on?โ
Before she could press further, Barton suddenly cleared his throat in the driverโs seat. โMr. Houston, youโre in a bad condition. It might be better if you sit upfront. I can keep an eye on you and make sure your injuries donโt worsen.โ
โItโs fine. Iโll stay with her.โ Marion opened the back door and climbed in.
Barton helplessly shook his head.
Debra was relentless. โNow, will you tell me whatโs going on?โ
Barton cut in, โWeโll be there in ten minutes. Please be careful if the ride gets bumpy.โ

Debra frowned. โYouโre always a smooth driver, arenโt you?โ
โIt might not be so smooth today,โ he replied, flooring the gas pedal.
The car jerked violently, bouncing over every bump in the road.
Marion grunted as his wound was strained.
โSlow down!โ Debra cried, steadying Marion as best as she could.
Marion grimaced, โAre you trying to kill me?โ
โI wouldnโt dare,โ Barton replied evenly. โMr. Andrew Potter and you are close friends.โ
โThen youโre driving me to death?โ
โNever, sir.โ
Debra listened to their conversation and soon realized this had something to do with Juan. Apparently, they didnโt want her to dig into the matter.
