Chapter 1028

Andrew skipped pleasantries and asked directly, โ€œFor what business did Mrs. Nichols Sr. call you over to Seamar City?โ€

โ€œTo help her take control of the Nichols family, of course,โ€ Theda replied. โ€œShe doesnโ€™t want it to fall into the hands of outsiders.โ€

Her smile resembled Debraโ€™s but was sharper. โ€œWho will you help, Debra or me?โ€

โ€œI invited you here,โ€ Andrew said coolly. โ€œSo, you know the answer.โ€

โ€œYou treat her so well,โ€ Theda murmured. โ€œSo well it almost makes me jealous.โ€

Her smile faded, and her tone turned icy. โ€œBut I wonโ€™t let go of what I want. The Nichols Group is mine.โ€

She placed a small bottle of pills on the desk and added, โ€œThese should help withโ€ฆcondition. See you.โ€

As she exited the study, Barton stepped forward, his face clouded with concern. โ€œSir, Iโ€™m afraid Ms. Buchan wonโ€™t give up easily.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s her,โ€ Andrew replied. โ€œBut Debra isnโ€™t a pushover either. Letโ€™s see which of them will laugh last.โ€

Barton hesitated. โ€œI fear Mrs. Houston has little chance against Ms. Buchan.โ€

Theda was no ordinary competitor. At 17, she had single-handedly turned her familyโ€™s fortune around. Her sharp business instincts had made the Buchan family a quiet yet formidable force. Recently, under her leadership, their assets had doubled, cementing their influence in Wrastow City.

If Theda took over the Nichols Group, few would object. Even though Juan had transferred all his shares to Erica, the shareholders would undoubtedly scheme to wrest them back. They all knew how shrewd and decisive Theda was. Manipulation and strategy were her playgrounds, and she played them flawlessly.

โ€œI donโ€™t think so,โ€ Andrew said. โ€œIโ€™ll be her greatest leverage.โ€

Theda might have skills, but she lacked something crucial. She carried too much bitterness and guarded against everyone. Whether in Seamar City or Wrastow City, she had no real friends, nor did she seek any. Thedaโ€™s obsession with power alienated those around her, leaving her to fight battles alone. This isolation was her greatest flaw.

Debra, on the other hand, had allies. She faced challenges with sincerity toward her friends and ruthlessness toward her enemies. If they went head-to-head, Theda might not come out on top.

Downstairs, Theda descended the steps, her gaze brushing over Erica. Erica caught a hint of animosity in her smile, though it vanished just as quickly.

โ€œMrs. Houston,โ€ Theda started, โ€œmy conversation with Andrew didnโ€™t go so well today. But I look forward to seeing you again at the shareholdersโ€™ meeting of the Nichols Group.โ€
