Chapter 1054

โ€œYou think Iโ€™m scared of being caught?โ€ Drake tried to pull his arm away, but Debra held on tightly. In the end, Drake snapped, โ€œFine! I wonโ€™t go.โ€ The police were already closing in. Running now would only make things worse. Being dragged back in cuffs wasnโ€™t exactly appealing.

Debra let go of him and smiled cheerfully, โ€œThank you for your cooperation.โ€

Pedro personally led the operation. Within minutes, the officers subdued the six thugs and loaded them into the vans. Pedro glanced at Debra and pointed at Drake. โ€œAbout Mr. Loweโ€ฆโ€

Debra explained, โ€œMr. Lowe is a witness. Heโ€™s cooperating with us to clear his name and assist in solving this case. Isnโ€™t that touching, Mr. Hardy?โ€

โ€œThank you, Mr. Lowe. Much appreciated,โ€ Pedro said gratefully. But then he scratched his head and added, โ€œWell, since Mr. Lowe is a witness, heโ€™ll need to come to the station for a statement. I know itโ€™s inconvenient, but Iโ€™m sure a generous and upright person like Mr. Lowe wonโ€™t mind, right?โ€

Before Drake could protest, Pedro gestured. โ€œMr. Lowe, this way, please.โ€ Drake shot a glare at Debra, who quickly showed an innocent expression.

โ€œWhy? Itโ€™s just a statement.โ€

โ€œYouโ€ฆโ€

โ€œAnd besides, riding in a police car as a witness to uphold justice? Thatโ€™s an honor youโ€™ll cherish forever.โ€ Drake couldnโ€™t tell if she was mocking or praising him.

At the police station, the six suspects were being interrogated in separate rooms. From the moment they arrived, they had refused to say a word. Drake finished giving his statement and walked out of the office. Debra was waiting outside, frowning in frustration.

He walked over and said, โ€œThey wonโ€™t talk.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t believe that. One of them will crack eventually,โ€ Debra muttered. They would be charged with possession of firearms if they stayed quiet. To save their skin, they would come clean.

Drake snorted, โ€œDonโ€™t be naรฏve. Itโ€™s not that simple. Possession of firearms might get them seven years in prison, but ratting out their boss? That would put their families and themselves in danger.โ€

โ€œAre you saying theyโ€™d rather go to prison?โ€ Debra asked.

โ€œHow many people in this world live just for themselves?โ€ Drake said with a bitter laugh. โ€œFor the sake of their families, theyโ€™d rather serve time. Besides, when they get out, their boss will probably reward them with some hush money. With that, theyโ€™ll keep wagging their tails like loyal dogs.โ€

Debra fell silent, and he continued, โ€œBut then again, what would a rich lady like you understand? You value pride over survival. But for small-timers like them? Pride means nothing. Staying alive is all that matters.โ€
