Chapter 107
Brice couldn't help but say, "Marion, you have excellent taste. That dress looks amazing on you."
Debra smiled lightly at the compliment. Marion chimed in, "This banquet isn't that important. Do you have any plans?"
Debra gestured with a brushing motion. "It's a secret."
The threshold for the Potter family's banquet was high. Attendees were all wealthy entrepreneurs in Seamer.
Shelia wore a white dress, looking nervous in the car. She had accompanied Juan to social events before, but they were trivial compared to this one. The Potter family's status was on par with Juan's. She glanced sideways at Juan, feeling nervous yet also joyful and excited. She couldn't believe she was accompanying him to such an occasion.
"Juan, do you really not want Debra to accompany you?" Shelia lowered her voice, hesitant.
The mention of Debra made Juan restless. He had called her, but she hadn't answered.
"You don't want to come?" he asked.
"I... I want to," Shelia blushed, stammering. "I'm just afraid others will gossip about us again."
Juan remained silent. In fact, he wished there were more rumors about them. He even wanted to see Debra's reaction.
Soon, they arrived. There weren't many people inside, so Juan took Shelia to greet acquaintances and offer toasts. Shortly after, the door opened again. Two couples entered, followed by Wendy and Carrie, holding hands.
It was their first time attending such a large event, and both families were thrilled to receive the invitation. They never imagined that minor business owners like them could attend such a grand occasion.
Shelia almost immediately noticed Wendy and Carrie. How could they be here? she wondered.
Juan noticed the change in her expression and asked, "Shelia, are you feeling unwell? Should I ask Joe to take you home?"
"I..." Shelia replied, her words faltering as she realized Wendy and Carrie were looking at her. Covering her face, she said, "I'm going to the bathroom and will be right back."
With that, she hurried toward the restroom.
Wendy and Carrie found it strange. Why is Shelia avoiding us?
"Let's go check it out," Wendy said, leading Carrie toward the corridor. They found Shelia at the restroom door. She exclaimed with awkward astonishment, "It's you guys."
"Why are you running away from us?" Carrie asked bluntly.
Wendy chimed in, "Was the guy standing by your side your boyfriend?"
"Y-Yeah," Shelia dared not deny it, knowing Wendy and Carrie had seen Juan visit her at school several times.
