Erica looked at Randy and remembered the old days. “Caleb always preferred to let us fend for ourselves,” she said. “He’s like an old wolf, wanting his descendants to struggle and survive on their own. When I first returned, he avoided me to test my abilities. If it weren’t for your help, I wouldn’t have been able to make Hunter pay for what he did.”

“No matter what happens, I’ll support you unconditionally,” Randy said. “Even if the whole world is against you, I will be by your side.”

Erica laughed. “You’re talking like Marion, but you’re not him. He grew up in a wolf’s den, while you grew up in a sheepfold. You’re sweet, but I can’t let you do those dangerous things for me.”

“I am serious,” Randy said. “Like Marion, I’d risk my life to protect the woman I love.”

“Bah! What nonsense are you talking about?” she snorted, poking his forehead. “You’re such a kid, talking about risking your life.”

Randy suddenly grabbed her hand and spoke wryly. “I’m not a kid anymore.”

Back then, Erica was taller than him, always speaking to him like an older sister. But now, he was no longer that kid. He was now taller than her and much stronger.

Erica tried to pull her hand away but in vain. Finally, she gave in. “Alright. You’re indeed stronger now. Happy now?”

“It’s not about strength. I’m a grown-up now. I want you to treat me like a man rather than a little brother.”

Randy had never said anything like this before. His manners were playful, but he had never had a serious relationship before. The confession had taken all his courage.

Erica froze, and he added, “We slept together, and you should take responsibility.”

Erica blushed and pushed him away. She stammered, “Don’t be silly. It was just a drunken mistake.”

“No, it wasn’t.” Randy stood up. “You know that.”

Unable to handle his intense gaze, Erica pushed him toward the door. “Alright, it’s not important. Just leave me alone. I’m going to rest now.”
