Erica shoved Randy out of the room and slammed the door in his face. Debra came out of her room and bumped into the scene. She raised an eyebrow as she noticed Randy’s flushed face. “Got drunk again?”

Randy was frustrated. “In films, the heroine always looks at the hero lovingly, but why does my heroine hit me?”

“Wrong approach, maybe,” Debra replied. “I think you need to make another, proper confession.”

“Confession? I’ve confessed a hundred times, but she only sees it as a joke. What can I do?”

“I mean a formal confession,” Debra said. “You’re too casual all the time. No girls would take you seriously with the way you talk. The situation is a bit awkward. Think carefully about how to confess and make her accept you.”

“Right.” Randy nodded. “I’ll make a plan.”

Debra shook her head as Randy rushed out in the middle of the night. Then she turned to knock on Erica’s door. “Erica, it’s me.”

Erica cautiously opened the door. In the room, only a desk lamp was on. Debra stepped inside and noticed Erica’s flushed face.

“Are you just going to reject Randy like this?”

“I’m older than him. I’ve always seen him as a little brother.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah,” Erica replied weakly, her eyes darting about. “But every time I’ve been at my lowest, he’s always been there for me. I can’t quite figure out if I like him or just rely on him.”

“If you want to know who you like, it’s simple,” Debra said. “Just close your eyes, and the first person who comes to your mind is the one you like.”

“Really? Sounds like something you’d tell a kid.”

“Why not give it a try?”

Erica closed her eyes, frowning. “No, there’s no one. It’s just pitch black.”

Debra hinted, “Tune into yourself and ask yourself. Who is the person you like?”

There was a moment of silence before Erica opened her eyes and buried her face in her hands.

“It’s him. It really is him.”

“As you said, every time you are at your lowest, he is there for you. That only means one thing: he cares for you. You’ve gotten so used to him being around that you didn’t realize it. But if, one day, Randy is with another woman, will you still be able to stay calm?”

Erica thought about it. If Randy had another woman by his side, then she would no longer be his priority. All his care would be given to someone else.
