“How so?” Debra retorted. “When you took all the advertisers from me, did you show any mercy?”

The air in the room grew tense. None of those shareholders dared to intervene.

Debra leaned in and whispered to Theda, “If I’m right, you signed a betting agreement with Runestone Bank. They invested two billion dollars in Buchan Entertainment’s rise in Seamar City. But if you can’t make four billion dollars in three years, you lose the bet. And if you lose… you know what the consequences are, right?”

If she lost, she’d have to repay the four billion. If she couldn’t, everything she had pledged would go to Runestone.

Debra had figured out the motives behind her sudden break with the Buchan Group and her eagerness to take over the Nichols Group; Debra had obtained more information on her through Marion.

Debra continued, “What do you think Melody would say if she found out? Would she still want you to take charge of the Nichols Group?”

“Not your concern,” Theda spat.

Her bet with Runestone Bank was supposed to be top secret. If Debra knew about it, she must have thoroughly investigated her.

Debra shrugged. “Well, you were brought back from the countryside, probably using that same bet to help the Buchan family build up its wealth. But I doubt that’s enough to back your ambitions in Seamar City. I bet there’s not much of their money you can get your hands on.”

“Theda, don’t waste your time on her. Today’s your big day. Just let her hand over the agreement and dismiss her. We don’t welcome her here,” Melody called out, glaring at Debra.

Debra stepped back and said, “Ms. Buchan, if you want that agreement back, let Juan come and talk to me. It’s not a big request, is it?”

Reluctantly, Theda pulled out her phone. “I’ll call him.”

“Theda.” Melody tried to stop her.

Theda replied, “It’s okay. Mr. Nichols just needs to come and explain himself a bit. Ms. Frazier won’t cause any trouble, not right before her wedding.”

To be on the same side, she requested Juan to come and hung up the phone.

“Ms. Frazier, please come with me,” she said, heading toward the door.

The shareholders exchanged looks, unsure about what was going on.

Once they were outside, Theda asked, “You could have used the penalties to crush me, but you didn’t. Why?”

Buchan Entertainment had recently taken 80% of the market share for ads and endorsements. Their business was flourishing, but the artists were already stressed out.
