Chapter 11
Sheila lowered her head and stood timidly by Juanโs side. Juanโs indifferent gaze reminded Debra of things from her past life, and her heart sank. She had intended to thank him, but it seemed Juan didnโt care at all.
โIโm tired. Do as you please,โ Debra said, heading upstairs. Her thoughts were no longer on Juan and Sheila. If Aaron could easily make his move on her, others could too. She couldnโt always rely on Juan without any ability to protect herself.
The next day, Debra prepared to leave early, only to find Juanโs grandmother sitting in the living room. Sheila stood nearby, looking aggrieved.
โMelody?โ Debra frowned. Melody Nichols rarely visited. Debra wondered what brought her here.
โI heard from Juan that you spent ten billion dollars on a piece of land,โ Melody said, her tone holding a hint of reproach.
Debra sat down and poured tea for Melody. โThatโs true.โ
โAnd were you kidnapped last night?โ
Debra lowered her gaze. โYes.โ
โWeโre not an ordinary family. Once a woman marries, she should stay out of the limelight. Business is a manโs affair. Your priority is to conceive a child, to deter those with ill intentions,โ Melody advised sternly, casting a meaningful glance at Sheila.
Debra looked at Sheila, who said pitifully, โMrs. Nichols Sr., I justโฆโ
โYou have no right to speak here,โ Melody cut her short. Sheila was speechless.
โJuanโs taste is getting worse. He lets anyone in here.โ Melodyโs disdain towards Sheila reminded Debra of things from her past life. Melody had protected her and despised Sheila, though it didnโt last long. Eventually, the Frazier family fell, and she couldnโt conceive. Sheila returned from abroad and became a support for Juan. Sheila did everything to please Melody and finally gained her favor. It all boiled down to self-interest.
Juan, who was leaving for work, overheard Melodyโs words and frowned. โGrandma, Sheila is a college student I sponsor. She was injured last night, so I asked her to stay here. Donโt blame her.โ
Chapter 12
Melody sneered, โThatโs your thinking, but she might not see it that way. I came early and found her preparing breakfast. I didnโt know when the Nichols family got a new hostess.โ
Sheila turned pale. She had wanted to make breakfast and wait for Juan to wake up, but Melody arrived before she could finish cooking. She didnโt even have a chance to explain before her intentions were exposed.
โMadam, I just wanted to make breakfast to thank Debra and Mr. Nichols. I didnโt mean anything else,โ Sheila stuttered.
Debra saw her reaction and realized how inexperienced she was. Melody had seen all kinds of women. At a glance, she could see through Sheilaโs thoughts.
