Chapter 125
Rosalieโs smile vanished instantly. She stood abruptly from her chair, her voice rising several octaves. โWhat? Divorce?โ
โWhy are you so surprised?โ Debra said.
โHow could you divorce? Thatโs Juan,โ Rosalie said incredulously. Debra had been head over heels for Juan, going to great lengths to marry him. It was hard to believe she wanted a divorce; they had been married only a couple of months.
Ralph pondered a moment and asked, โIs this Juanโs decision?โ
โNo, itโs mine.โ
โHave you thought this through?โ
Debra nodded firmly. โYes, I have.โ
Upon hearing Debraโs resolve, Ralph seemed equally determined. โAlright then, letโs proceed with the divorce.โ
โWhat? No!โ Rosalie pushed Ralph aside and shouted at Debra, โYouโre not taking marriage seriously at all! If you divorce Juan, what will become of our family? Do you want to let Ralph down?โ
Debra looked on coldly. Ralph took a stand and pulled Rosalie aside. โShut up! You have no say here.โ
โRalph! Do you have no conscience? Everything I do is for you and the Frazier family. If Debra divorces him, how can we survive?โ
Debra remained silent. Rosalie wasnโt entirely wrong; the Frazier familyโs prosperity was largely due to Juan. The alliance with the Nichols family had greatly benefited them.
Ralph argued, โI donโt believe we canโt thrive without him. Besides, even if we lose everything, the money we have could last you and your son for several lifetimes. Learn to be content!โ
Rosalie was furious. Stanley Frazier, who had been silent, stepped in to defend Rosalie. โDad, Mom has a point. Debra is the heiress to the Frazier family. Weโve raised her all these years. She should contribute to the family.โ
โShut up!โ Ralph yelled at him.
Despite his dissatisfaction, Stanley dared not defy his father. Ralph turned to Debra and said solemnly, โDebra is the only child left by your eldest brother. I promised him to take good care of her. Letโs not discuss this anymore. Even without Juan, we can thrive.โ
Debra knew Ralph cared for her; he had treated her like his own child.
โUncle Ralph, trust me. I wonโt let the Frazier family fall,โ Debra finally broke her silence.
Rosalie, beside herself with anger, interjected, โTrust you? How can we trust you? Just because youโre studying at Arcane Academy, you think you can manage the family?โ
Others chimed in: โYes, Mr. Frazier, you should think twice. If Ms. Frazier leaves Mr. Nichols, what will we do?โ โYou canโt be so selfish, Ms. Frazier. If you divorce Mr. Nichols, weโll all be left out in the cold.โ
The voices of the extended Frazier family and executives echoed around the room.
Ralphโs roar silenced everyone instantly. โEnough! If anyone mentions this again, youโre out!โ He was known for his kindness and approachability, but no one dared provoke him when he was angry.
