Chapter 129
Debra opened the car door and struggled to climb out, coughing incessantly from the smoke. She exited the car and checked on Juan. In the driver's seat, he was already unconscious, his forehead bleeding and his body cut.
โJuan!โ Debra exclaimed, rushing to open the car door and pull him out. โJuan, wake up!โ
Looking around, she saw only the two collided cars. Noticing oil leaking from the rear of Juan's car, a sense of dread filled her. She shook Juan's shoulders urgently. โJuan! You have to wake up!โ
Juan furrowed his brow and struggled to open his eyes. Debra's worried face was before him. His mind was cloudy, but he felt he had seen this face beforeโthough it was too distant to recall.
โJuan!โ Debraโs voice was intermittently near and far. โCan you move? Come out! The car is about to explode!โ
A flame already licked at the rear of the car. Seeing Juan unable to speak, she gathered her strength to drag him.
โItโs no use. You should go,โ he said weakly, feeling his legs trapped.
Debra realized this instantly. โJuan, are you giving up like this? If you die here, what about Shelia?โ
Juan pressed his lips together.
Debra continued, โShelia only has you to rely on. If you die, Iโll torment her to death! Do you hear me?โ
Juan had a bitter smile, seemingly amused by her words. When the accident happened, Sheliaโs image was surprisingly absent from his mind; it was occupied by Debra.
Debra gritted her teeth. โJuan, I donโt want to be a widow. If you die, Iโll remarry the next day!โ
Juanโs hand moved slightly, as if sparked by a will to survive. Debra continued, โAnyway, Marion likes me. If you die, Iโll marry him. Everyone in Seamar City will laugh at you.โ
Juanโs breathing quickened, and he finally extended his arms towards Debra. โThatโs brutal!โ
He had risked his life to save her.
Debra quickly turned away. Just as she was rambling, Juan managed to free his trapped leg. Feeling the fire spreading, Debra knew the car could explode at any moment. Even though it was difficult, she dragged Juan away.
A deafening explosion echoed nearby, followed by a wave of heat. She shielded Juan instinctively, feeling his arms wrap around her. When the heat subsided, Debra experienced a brief ringing in her ears. Juan, who had been on top of her, had lost consciousness.
Debra froze. โJuan?โ
