Chapter 130
Debra struggled to pull the phone from Juan's pocket and called 911. Then she faded into unconsciousness.
The next day, she groggily opened her eyes to see Joe bustling around. Her voice was hoarse and weak. โWhereโs Juan?โ
A flicker of relief crossed Joeโs face, and he asked quickly, โMadam, are you asking for water?โ
Debra shook her head, asking again, โWhereโs Juan?โ
โMr. Nichols,โ Joe hesitated, โheโs severely injured and currently in intensive care.โ
Debra struggled to sit up. Joe quickly held her arm. โMadam! The doctor said your injuries are serious too. You mustnโt get out of bed!โ
Debra, devoid of strength, knew Juan had been hurt trying to save her. She couldnโt be relieved unless she saw him.
Joe tried to stop her, but suddenly, noise erupted outside the room.
โWhereโs Debra? How is she?โ
Debra recognized Ralphโs voice. Joe went out to check. Sure enough, Ralph and Rosalie had arrived. Rosalie was searching anxiously for Debra.
โHow is she?โ
Through the window, Debra saw Rosalieโs actions; she was just trying to ascertain if Debra was dead. Debra recalled the accident.

That car had been fine before she went to their house.
Joe told them, โMrs. Nichols is resting now.โ
โLet them in,โ Debra calmly said.
She caught a glimpse of Rosalieโs disappointment; Debra hadnโt died, and Rosalie wasnโt pleased.
Ralph hurried in and was pained to see Debra covered in scratches and bandages.
โWhat happened? How did you end up like this?โ
โSomeone tampered with my brakes. They malfunctioned.โ
Ralphโs face was filled with shock and confusion. Debra observed Rosalieโs expression but couldnโt discern any clues. โIf itโs not Rosalie, who could it be?โ she wondered.
Ralph glanced at Rosalie and said, โGive us the room.โ
Rosalie was stunned, asking, โWhat? Are you suspecting me?โ
Ralph held his breath, remaining silent.
Rosalie put her hands on her hips, saying, โWeโve been married for so many years, and Iโve contributed to the family. Is that how you repay me?โ
Ralph didnโt want to lay it bare, but Rosalie glared at him, shouting, โDo you have evidence? Show it, and Iโll turn myself in.โ
โNobody said it was you. Debra needs a rest. Just wait outside.โ
โYou!โ
โGet out!โ
Ralphโs attitude was firm, and Rosalie, hindered by Debraโs presence, could only stamp her foot and leave the ward.
Debra watched Rosalieโs reaction, which didnโt seem fake. If this were her doing, she wouldnโt have been so confident.
โI know you suspect Rosalie, but I can assure you it wasnโt her.โ
