Chapter 130

Debra struggled to pull the phone from Juan's pocket and called 911. Then she faded into unconsciousness.

The next day, she groggily opened her eyes to see Joe bustling around. Her voice was hoarse and weak. โ€œWhereโ€™s Juan?โ€

A flicker of relief crossed Joeโ€™s face, and he asked quickly, โ€œMadam, are you asking for water?โ€

Debra shook her head, asking again, โ€œWhereโ€™s Juan?โ€

โ€œMr. Nichols,โ€ Joe hesitated, โ€œheโ€™s severely injured and currently in intensive care.โ€

Debra struggled to sit up. Joe quickly held her arm. โ€œMadam! The doctor said your injuries are serious too. You mustnโ€™t get out of bed!โ€

Debra, devoid of strength, knew Juan had been hurt trying to save her. She couldnโ€™t be relieved unless she saw him.

Joe tried to stop her, but suddenly, noise erupted outside the room.

โ€œWhereโ€™s Debra? How is she?โ€

Debra recognized Ralphโ€™s voice. Joe went out to check. Sure enough, Ralph and Rosalie had arrived. Rosalie was searching anxiously for Debra.

โ€œHow is she?โ€

Through the window, Debra saw Rosalieโ€™s actions; she was just trying to ascertain if Debra was dead. Debra recalled the accident.

That car had been fine before she went to their house.

Joe told them, โ€œMrs. Nichols is resting now.โ€

โ€œLet them in,โ€ Debra calmly said.

She caught a glimpse of Rosalieโ€™s disappointment; Debra hadnโ€™t died, and Rosalie wasnโ€™t pleased.

Ralph hurried in and was pained to see Debra covered in scratches and bandages.

โ€œWhat happened? How did you end up like this?โ€

โ€œSomeone tampered with my brakes. They malfunctioned.โ€

Ralphโ€™s face was filled with shock and confusion. Debra observed Rosalieโ€™s expression but couldnโ€™t discern any clues. โ€˜If itโ€™s not Rosalie, who could it be?โ€™ she wondered.

Ralph glanced at Rosalie and said, โ€œGive us the room.โ€

Rosalie was stunned, asking, โ€œWhat? Are you suspecting me?โ€

Ralph held his breath, remaining silent.

Rosalie put her hands on her hips, saying, โ€œWeโ€™ve been married for so many years, and Iโ€™ve contributed to the family. Is that how you repay me?โ€

Ralph didnโ€™t want to lay it bare, but Rosalie glared at him, shouting, โ€œDo you have evidence? Show it, and Iโ€™ll turn myself in.โ€

โ€œNobody said it was you. Debra needs a rest. Just wait outside.โ€

โ€œYou!โ€

โ€œGet out!โ€

Ralphโ€™s attitude was firm, and Rosalie, hindered by Debraโ€™s presence, could only stamp her foot and leave the ward.

Debra watched Rosalieโ€™s reaction, which didnโ€™t seem fake. If this were her doing, she wouldnโ€™t have been so confident.

โ€œI know you suspect Rosalie, but I can assure you it wasnโ€™t her.โ€
