Chapter 131
โI know,โ Debra said. โEven though Rosalie is always mean, she wouldnโt do something like this.โ At least, not now. Debra didnโt finish her sentence. Ralph nodded and replied, โThatโs the way she is. Iโll check the home surveillance when I get back. Weโll find out.โ
โOkay.โ
After Ralph left, Debra got out of bed. Her ankle seemed sprained; the pain was sharp as soon as she stood. Joe panicked. โMadam, why are you getting up?โ
โI want to check on Juan.โ
โMadamโฆโ Joe hesitated.
Debra noticed Juanโs room was partially open, indicating someone was already inside. She approached and glimpsed a white figure. It was Sheila. Joe blocked Debraโs view and said reluctantly, โMadam, you should go back and rest.โ
Debraโs eyes dimmed. That explained why Joe had prevented her from visiting Juan.
โAlright.โ Debra turned back to the ward. At the end of the day, she realized she had overthought; Juan was in good hands with Sheila. There was no need to worry.
Her phone rang suddenly. It was Erica, sounding anxious.
โDebra! Why didnโt you answer my calls? Youโve been missing all day. Iโve been messaging you with no reply. Are you okay?โ
Debra checked the time. It was already afternoon. Normally, she and Erica would chat for a while every day. Her prolonged unconsciousness understandably worried Erica.
โYeah, I had some trouble,โ Debraโs voice carried weariness.
โTrouble? Where are you? Iโm coming over now!โ
Debra hesitated but eventually gave Erica the hospitalโs address. She leaned against the bed, pondering who might want her dead. If it wasnโt Rosalie, it must be someone from the Frazier family. Her head throbbed, and she rubbed her temples, mentally reviewing possible suspects. Suddenly, her eyes widened, a grim realization settling in.
โYouโll regret this!โ Stanleyโs aggressive voice echoed in her mind, and her expression darkened. Besides Stanley, she couldnโt think of anyone else. She had only seen him as a troublemaker; it was hard to believe he would attempt murder.
Joe entered with a glass of water. Debra asked, โIs my car at the repair shop?โ
โYes, it was sent over this morning.โ Joe looked puzzled. โMadam, why do you ask?โ
โHelp me make a call. Ask them if there was a problem with the brake line.โ
Joe understood instantly. โWill do.โ
Debra closed her eyes slowly, hoping it wasnโt Star. After all, he was Ralphyโs only son.
After a while, Joe returned, his expression grave. โThe repair shop confirmed that the brake line was deliberately cut. Madam, should we investigate?โ
Debraโs eyes dimmed. โNo need. You can go.โ
โAlright.โ
It seemed like it really was Stanley. Erica burst into the room, and Joe quietly retreated.
