Chapter 131

โ€œI know,โ€ Debra said. โ€œEven though Rosalie is always mean, she wouldnโ€™t do something like this.โ€ At least, not now. Debra didnโ€™t finish her sentence. Ralph nodded and replied, โ€œThatโ€™s the way she is. Iโ€™ll check the home surveillance when I get back. Weโ€™ll find out.โ€

โ€œOkay.โ€

After Ralph left, Debra got out of bed. Her ankle seemed sprained; the pain was sharp as soon as she stood. Joe panicked. โ€œMadam, why are you getting up?โ€

โ€œI want to check on Juan.โ€

โ€œMadamโ€ฆโ€ Joe hesitated.

Debra noticed Juanโ€™s room was partially open, indicating someone was already inside. She approached and glimpsed a white figure. It was Sheila. Joe blocked Debraโ€™s view and said reluctantly, โ€œMadam, you should go back and rest.โ€

Debraโ€™s eyes dimmed. That explained why Joe had prevented her from visiting Juan.

โ€œAlright.โ€ Debra turned back to the ward. At the end of the day, she realized she had overthought; Juan was in good hands with Sheila. There was no need to worry.

Her phone rang suddenly. It was Erica, sounding anxious.

โ€œDebra! Why didnโ€™t you answer my calls? Youโ€™ve been missing all day. Iโ€™ve been messaging you with no reply. Are you okay?โ€

Debra checked the time. It was already afternoon. Normally, she and Erica would chat for a while every day. Her prolonged unconsciousness understandably worried Erica.

โ€œYeah, I had some trouble,โ€ Debraโ€™s voice carried weariness.

โ€œTrouble? Where are you? Iโ€™m coming over now!โ€

Debra hesitated but eventually gave Erica the hospitalโ€™s address. She leaned against the bed, pondering who might want her dead. If it wasnโ€™t Rosalie, it must be someone from the Frazier family. Her head throbbed, and she rubbed her temples, mentally reviewing possible suspects. Suddenly, her eyes widened, a grim realization settling in.

โ€œYouโ€™ll regret this!โ€ Stanleyโ€™s aggressive voice echoed in her mind, and her expression darkened. Besides Stanley, she couldnโ€™t think of anyone else. She had only seen him as a troublemaker; it was hard to believe he would attempt murder.

Joe entered with a glass of water. Debra asked, โ€œIs my car at the repair shop?โ€

โ€œYes, it was sent over this morning.โ€ Joe looked puzzled. โ€œMadam, why do you ask?โ€

โ€œHelp me make a call. Ask them if there was a problem with the brake line.โ€

Joe understood instantly. โ€œWill do.โ€

Debra closed her eyes slowly, hoping it wasnโ€™t Star. After all, he was Ralphyโ€™s only son.

After a while, Joe returned, his expression grave. โ€œThe repair shop confirmed that the brake line was deliberately cut. Madam, should we investigate?โ€

Debraโ€™s eyes dimmed. โ€œNo need. You can go.โ€

โ€œAlright.โ€

It seemed like it really was Stanley. Erica burst into the room, and Joe quietly retreated.
