Chapter 202
โDebra, youโve been spending a lot of time with Michael lately, and your internship work has suffered. Miss Miles expects you to finish this today, or your internship might be in jeopardy,โ said a coworker, placing a stack of files on her desk.
Debra eyed the towering pile, which nearly obscured her computer screen. She glanced across the office at Shelia, who wore a self-satisfied smirk. Debra had anticipated some retaliation, but she hadnโt expected Shelia to stoop so low. She stood up, walked over to the desk, and quickly counted the files. โIf I recall correctly, these were supposed to be checked by Carole yesterday, werenโt they?โ
The female employee remained unfazed. โSo what? Iโm a full-time employee. Entrusting these documents to you is a sign of faith in your abilities.โ
Debra let out a derisive snort. โYou think itโs possible to check all these reports and come up with ten plans by the end of the day?โ
The employee shifted uncomfortably but held her ground. โDebra, this is an opportunity for you to learn and grow. Donโt be ungrateful. Tyson Enterprises is a prestigious, publicly listed company. Youโre lucky to have an internship here, especially since you only got into Arcane Academyโs post-graduate program through connections.โ
Debra couldnโt help but laugh at the absurdity of her words. โWho told you I got into Arcane Academy through connections?โ
โWell, itโsโฆโ The employee almost blurted out the truth. She paused and said, โItโs common knowledge. The whole company knows. Otherwise, how could you be here interning at Tyson Enterprises?โ
โIs it now?โ Debra challenged. โAnd what about the other interns? Are they all here because of connections, too?โ
โIโฆโ The employee faltered, unable to find a response.
Shelia emerged from her office. โDebra, is there a problem with the work Iโve assigned you?โ She dropped the act, her posture radiating triumph.
โMiss Miles, Debra says she canโt handle the work youโve given her,โ the female employee tattled.
Sheliaโs smile never wavered. โIโm sure itโs well within anyoneโs capabilities. If you canโt manage it, Debra, perhaps youโre just looking for an excuse to be lazy. If thatโs your attitude, Iโll have no choice but to discuss your internship with Mr. Tyson.โ
The air in the workspace grew thick with tension. Debraโs lips curled into a slight smile. She couldnโt comprehend the source of Sheliaโs arrogance.
โFine,โ Debra said. โBut before you talk to Mr. Tyson, youโll need to make some room for me.โ
Sheliaโs brow furrowed in confusion. โWhat do you mean by that?โ
โYouโll see,โ Debra replied.
As if on cue, two rows of bodyguards clad in black filed into the company. At their head was Ben, who approached Debra and bowed respectfully. โMs. Frazier, here is the contract between Mr. Michael Austin and Tyson Jewelry.โ
