Chapter 243

Juan opened the car door, helping Debra inside before sliding into the driverโ€™s seat. Hester hurried after them, but by the time she exited the restaurant, Juan had already sped off with Debra. She was left behind and unhappy.

โ€œSome people think copying my style will impress Juan,โ€ Shelia said smugly, emerging from behind Hester. Hester straightened, confusion evident in her voice. โ€œDo I know you?โ€

Shelia scoffed. โ€œDonโ€™t play dumb. Debra once tried to catch Juanโ€™s eye by imitating me. Now, youโ€™re just a worse copycat.โ€

Just moments before, she had devised an excellent plan. The position of Mrs. Nichols was hers for the taking. No one could compete with her for it, not Debra or Hester.

โ€œIs that so? But I donโ€™t think Juan takes you seriously either, so thereโ€™s no point bringing up the past,โ€ Hester countered, flicking her hair. โ€œAfter all, youโ€™re just a poor student sponsored by him, while I am a fair lady. I would never consider you a competitor; that would be beneath me.โ€

With that, she stepped away from the curb and drove off in her luxury car, leaving Shelia fuming.

โ€œFine,โ€ she muttered under her breath, her hands clenching. โ€œIf you want to compete with me, Iโ€™ll make sure both of you disappear.โ€

In the speeding car, Debra gripped the seat. โ€œJuan, are you crazy? Why are you driving so fast?โ€ The car was well over 120 mph, and she couldnโ€™t understand what had gotten into him.

He pulled over, slamming the brakes so hard that Debra lurched forward, nearly hitting the dashboard. โ€œWhatโ€™s gotten into you?โ€ she snapped.

Juanโ€™s face was dark, his tone accusatory. โ€œDid you orchestrate it?โ€

Debra avoided his gaze, feigning ignorance. โ€œI have no idea what youโ€™re talking about.โ€

โ€œHow did Shelia coincidentally show up at the restaurant? And how did Hester know I was bringing you here?โ€ he croaked. โ€œIโ€™ve indulged you, but Iโ€™m not stupid. What are you up to? To push me to them, orโ€ฆ?โ€

Debra maintained her composure. โ€œYouโ€™re overthinking. Itโ€™s all just a coincidence. Shelia happened to be there, and Hester appeared because of Melodyโ€™s instructions. It has nothing to do with me.โ€

Juan studied her expression and softened his tone. โ€œIf you had asserted your status and confronted Shelia, I would have been happy. That would mean you still want to be my wife. If you wanted Hester and Shelia to fight each other, Iโ€™d be glad too. That would mean you still care about me.โ€ He paused, his gaze intense. โ€œYou didnโ€™t confront them because you didnโ€™t care.โ€
