Chapter 302
Hester felt a surge of happiness when she heard Melodyโs promise. โI will follow your instructions.โ
The police car loitered outside for half an hour before slowly making its way to the station. As they finally arrived, Juan stepped out, his face grim and stormy. Joe followed closely behind, his body tense with barely contained anger. The driver had intentionally driven in circles, aiming to make a spectacle of them and stir up public opinion. They cursed Marion for this underhanded move.
โMr. Houston, Ms. Frazier, please get out of the car.โ
Debra emerged, wrapped in Marionโs coat. Her eyes met Juanโs gaze with icy resolve. Juan glanced at Marion, his voice cold and accusatory. โMr. Houston, youโve got some impressive tactics. Iโve seen it now.โ
Marion was unruffled. โCompared to yours, my methods are indeed more sophisticated.โ
โMr. Nichols, please come with us to make a statement,โ the officer instructed, leading Juan away. Juanโs gaze lingered on Debra, but she refused to meet his eyes, her expression stony.
โLetโs go,โ Marion said, shielding Debra as they walked toward the police station. Just as they were about to enter, a car pulled up abruptly, its headlights shining brightly on them. Melody stormed out of the car and raised her hand to hit Debra.
Debra swiftly grabbed her hand, saying, โMelody, weโre all respectable people. Is this necessary?โ
โYouโve caused such a scene! You have no regard for the Nichols familyโs reputation, and now youโre sending Juan to the police station. How can there be such a vicious woman like you in this world? I should never have let you into our house,โ Melody panted with rage, her eyes filled with a burning desire to tear Debra down.
Hester echoed her words. โThatโs right. How could you do such a thing? You need to explain to the police that this isnโt what it seems. Get them to release Juan.โ
Debra almost laughed at the absurdity of Hesterโs words. โMiss Vargas, who are you to command me? Juan kidnapped me with the intention of assaulting me. Iโm the victim here. Why should I explain anything to the police, and why should I make them release him?โ
Hester felt embarrassed but pressed on. โJuan is your husband. How can this be considered assault?โ
โBe aware that any act against a womanโs will is assault. Besides, Juan and I are in the process of divorcing. He had me kidnapped and taken to a hotel. How is that not assault?โ Debra replied coldly. โI wanted to settle the divorce amicably, but Juan refused and resorted to such vile actions. Itโs perfectly reasonable for me to sue him.โ
Melodyโs face darkened, her voice shaking with anger. โYouโre beyond reason. You know what? Even if Juan disagrees, you two will be divorced. I will never accept a woman like you into our family.โ
She pulled Hester aside. โHester, come with me.โ
โOkay,โ Hester replied, her eyes gleaming with newfound confidence.
Debra perceived what was happening. It seemed Melody had some kind of deal with Hester. With Hesterโs confident look, it was likely she would soon become the hostess of the Nichols family.
โHit an old woman?โ Marion joked. โIโve never done it before, but I could give it a try. Iโd like to see what youโll do about it. Do you think Seamar City is so easy to navigate? Do you think the Nichols family is easy to bully? If you touch me, Juan wonโt let you off,โ Melody snorted.
Then they continued to lead Hester towards the police station.
In her past life, Debra had shown Melody kindness, only to be met with cold indifference. Everyone in the Nichols family was heartless. She would fight for herself, even against a prominent figure like Melody. After all, this wasnโt a conflict between men but a war between women.
Melodyโs gaze flicked between Marion and Debra, her lips curling into a sneer. โOh, I see. You two are in cahoots. Debra, you betrayed Juan and think you can lecture me?โ
