Chapter 355

โ€œIs Mr. Andrew Potter up?โ€ Debra asked.

โ€œYes,โ€ the maid replied. โ€œDo you want to meet him?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s time for me to leave,โ€ Debra said, her grip tightening on the envelope in her hand. She held evidence of Ralphโ€™s crimes, and she could leave at any moment. But exposing Ralph would mean sending him to prison.

Across town, Ralph had just risen from bed when he heard a knock at the door. The maid hurried to open it and was startled to see Debra standing outside.

โ€œMโ€“Ms. Frazier?โ€

Ralph came downstairs, asking, โ€œWhoโ€™s there?โ€

When he saw Debra at the door, his expression froze for a moment before he quickly composed himself. He hurried over to her, his face a mask of concern. โ€œDebra, how did you get out? What happened? Did the police clear everything up?โ€

Debra didnโ€™t answer any of his questions. Instead, she smiled faintly and said, โ€œUncle Ralph, you really care about me.โ€

โ€œOf course. Youโ€™re the only child of my elder brother. How could I not care?โ€ he sighed. โ€œI donโ€™t know who framed us and got you jailed. There have been so many rumors lately. I was really worried about you.โ€

Debra walked past him, taking a seat on the sofa. โ€œDonโ€™t worry, Uncle Ralph, Iโ€™m fine now, arenโ€™t I?โ€

Ralph didnโ€™t know how to respond. Debra added, โ€œCome on and take a seat.โ€

โ€œAlright.โ€ He nodded, taking a seat across from her. His eyes flickering with unease, he asked, โ€œHow did you get out? Did Mr. Houston contact the police?โ€

Debra shrugged, her voice noncommittal. โ€œI was in custody all day and could not contact anyone. Sorry for the trouble yesterday.โ€

His questions went unanswered, and Ralph felt even more uneasy. โ€œNo worries, weโ€™re family. But embezzlement and bribery are serious issues. If you needed money, you could have just told me.โ€

โ€œDo you have money?โ€ Debra asked with interest. โ€œI might need one billion dollars to cover that gap. The police said embezzlement is easy to fix; just fill in the money. But bribery and corruption might be a bit tricky.โ€

Ralphโ€™s eyelid twitched, a telltale sign of his nervousness. โ€œDid you really commit bribery and corruption?โ€

Debra replied, โ€œI grew up under your watch. Do you think I would?โ€

Ralph shook his head vehemently. โ€œOf course not. This must be a frame-up. If I find out whoโ€™s behind this, Iโ€™ll make sure theyโ€ฆโ€

Suddenly, Debra slapped a document onto the table, the sound echoing through the room like a gunshot. Ralphโ€™s voice stopped abruptly, his eyes widening as he stared at the document.

โ€œSince weโ€™re family, I didnโ€™t want to beat around the bush, but youโ€™re not being honest.โ€

Ralphโ€™s unease grew, his eyes flickering between Debra and the document. He knew what it contained, but he still hoped it wasnโ€™t true. โ€œWhat are you talking about? I donโ€™t understand.โ€
