Chapter 355
โIs Mr. Andrew Potter up?โ Debra asked.
โYes,โ the maid replied. โDo you want to meet him?โ
โItโs time for me to leave,โ Debra said, her grip tightening on the envelope in her hand. She held evidence of Ralphโs crimes, and she could leave at any moment. But exposing Ralph would mean sending him to prison.
Across town, Ralph had just risen from bed when he heard a knock at the door. The maid hurried to open it and was startled to see Debra standing outside.
โMโMs. Frazier?โ
Ralph came downstairs, asking, โWhoโs there?โ
When he saw Debra at the door, his expression froze for a moment before he quickly composed himself. He hurried over to her, his face a mask of concern. โDebra, how did you get out? What happened? Did the police clear everything up?โ
Debra didnโt answer any of his questions. Instead, she smiled faintly and said, โUncle Ralph, you really care about me.โ
โOf course. Youโre the only child of my elder brother. How could I not care?โ he sighed. โI donโt know who framed us and got you jailed. There have been so many rumors lately. I was really worried about you.โ
Debra walked past him, taking a seat on the sofa. โDonโt worry, Uncle Ralph, Iโm fine now, arenโt I?โ
Ralph didnโt know how to respond. Debra added, โCome on and take a seat.โ
โAlright.โ He nodded, taking a seat across from her. His eyes flickering with unease, he asked, โHow did you get out? Did Mr. Houston contact the police?โ
Debra shrugged, her voice noncommittal. โI was in custody all day and could not contact anyone. Sorry for the trouble yesterday.โ
His questions went unanswered, and Ralph felt even more uneasy. โNo worries, weโre family. But embezzlement and bribery are serious issues. If you needed money, you could have just told me.โ
โDo you have money?โ Debra asked with interest. โI might need one billion dollars to cover that gap. The police said embezzlement is easy to fix; just fill in the money. But bribery and corruption might be a bit tricky.โ
Ralphโs eyelid twitched, a telltale sign of his nervousness. โDid you really commit bribery and corruption?โ
Debra replied, โI grew up under your watch. Do you think I would?โ
Ralph shook his head vehemently. โOf course not. This must be a frame-up. If I find out whoโs behind this, Iโll make sure theyโฆโ
Suddenly, Debra slapped a document onto the table, the sound echoing through the room like a gunshot. Ralphโs voice stopped abruptly, his eyes widening as he stared at the document.
โSince weโre family, I didnโt want to beat around the bush, but youโre not being honest.โ
Ralphโs unease grew, his eyes flickering between Debra and the document. He knew what it contained, but he still hoped it wasnโt true. โWhat are you talking about? I donโt understand.โ
