Chapter 396
Hannah didn't stop Debra, and soon, a sleek black car arrived. The trainees, leaving the cafeteria, watched Debra enter the vehicle. Whispers filled the air as they exchanged speculative glances.
โI told you Debra had someone backing her,โ one said. โShe left so late. Clearly, someone is keeping her.โ
โCan you believe Hannah covered for her? We only get to leave this place every ten days or two weeks. Debra is truly an exception.โ
Inside the car, Debra immediately dialed the hospital head's number, her heart pounding with anxiety. His voice was grave when he answered. โMs. Frazier, the situation is serious, but don't worry, his face is unharmed.โ
Debra's grip tightened on her phone.
โIโm asking about the person, not the face,โ she clarified.
โMichael is fine. Heโs out of danger.โ
Debra sensed his lack of complete honesty. She hung up and turned to Ben. โFill me in.โ
โThis morning, Michael was supposed to go to the Potter Group, but there was an accident. The carโs brake line malfunctioned. Itโs preliminarily determined to be sabotage.โ
โAnd then? Did they catch the culprit?โ
โThey did, butโฆโ Ben hesitated, โthe criminal is a mentally unstable fan. Sheโs obsessed with Michael to the point of madness, and her mental state is quite problematic. It might be difficult to prosecute her.โ
Debra's mind raced. โA delusional, coincidentally mentally unstable fan? Too convenient.โ
She realized someone must have targeted Michael while she was away.
Just then, her phone rang. It was an unknown number. Sheliaโs mocking voice filled the line. โDebra, are you satisfied with the gift I sent you?โ
Debraโs pupils contracted. Shelia added, โWerenโt you so haughty before? Youโve lost everything now, and Iโm going to make you lose even more.โ
โDid you go after Michael?โ Debra demanded, but the call ended.
Shelia was being cautious, avoiding evidence. Debra recalled a dream and clutched her phone.
In a high-end apartment across town, Shelia lounged on the sofa, draped in a sexy black nightgown. Her face was filled with smug satisfaction.
Edgar entered the living room, his eyes briefly registering disapproval of Shelia's attire.
Sheliaโs face lit up when she saw him. She threw herself into his arms, affecting a shy demeanor. โYouโre back. Iโve got some wine for you. Do you want some?โ
Edgar glanced at her, a touch of tenderness in his eyes, but his voice remained cold. โThe doctor said pregnant women canโt drink. Itโs time for bed.โ
Shelia pouted, her voice petulant. โBut I want to drink with you.โ
She shook his arm, but he remained firm. โItโs late. Go to bed.โ
She felt a pang of unhappiness. Lately, Edgar had been obedient, but he refused to touch her.
Feeling wronged, she said, โAre you repulsed by me being pregnant with someone elseโs child? I can get rid of it for you.โ
Edgarโs eyes flashed with disgust, but he held back. โDonโt talk like that. Your child is mine too. Iโll take good care of him. Donโt overthink it.โ
