Chapter 396

Hannah didn't stop Debra, and soon, a sleek black car arrived. The trainees, leaving the cafeteria, watched Debra enter the vehicle. Whispers filled the air as they exchanged speculative glances.

โ€œI told you Debra had someone backing her,โ€ one said. โ€œShe left so late. Clearly, someone is keeping her.โ€

โ€œCan you believe Hannah covered for her? We only get to leave this place every ten days or two weeks. Debra is truly an exception.โ€

Inside the car, Debra immediately dialed the hospital head's number, her heart pounding with anxiety. His voice was grave when he answered. โ€œMs. Frazier, the situation is serious, but don't worry, his face is unharmed.โ€

Debra's grip tightened on her phone.

โ€œIโ€™m asking about the person, not the face,โ€ she clarified.

โ€œMichael is fine. Heโ€™s out of danger.โ€

Debra sensed his lack of complete honesty. She hung up and turned to Ben. โ€œFill me in.โ€

โ€œThis morning, Michael was supposed to go to the Potter Group, but there was an accident. The carโ€™s brake line malfunctioned. Itโ€™s preliminarily determined to be sabotage.โ€

โ€œAnd then? Did they catch the culprit?โ€

โ€œThey did, butโ€ฆโ€ Ben hesitated, โ€œthe criminal is a mentally unstable fan. Sheโ€™s obsessed with Michael to the point of madness, and her mental state is quite problematic. It might be difficult to prosecute her.โ€

Debra's mind raced. โ€œA delusional, coincidentally mentally unstable fan? Too convenient.โ€

She realized someone must have targeted Michael while she was away.

Just then, her phone rang. It was an unknown number. Sheliaโ€™s mocking voice filled the line. โ€œDebra, are you satisfied with the gift I sent you?โ€

Debraโ€™s pupils contracted. Shelia added, โ€œWerenโ€™t you so haughty before? Youโ€™ve lost everything now, and Iโ€™m going to make you lose even more.โ€

โ€œDid you go after Michael?โ€ Debra demanded, but the call ended.

Shelia was being cautious, avoiding evidence. Debra recalled a dream and clutched her phone.

In a high-end apartment across town, Shelia lounged on the sofa, draped in a sexy black nightgown. Her face was filled with smug satisfaction.

Edgar entered the living room, his eyes briefly registering disapproval of Shelia's attire.

Sheliaโ€™s face lit up when she saw him. She threw herself into his arms, affecting a shy demeanor. โ€œYouโ€™re back. Iโ€™ve got some wine for you. Do you want some?โ€

Edgar glanced at her, a touch of tenderness in his eyes, but his voice remained cold. โ€œThe doctor said pregnant women canโ€™t drink. Itโ€™s time for bed.โ€

Shelia pouted, her voice petulant. โ€œBut I want to drink with you.โ€

She shook his arm, but he remained firm. โ€œItโ€™s late. Go to bed.โ€

She felt a pang of unhappiness. Lately, Edgar had been obedient, but he refused to touch her.

Feeling wronged, she said, โ€œAre you repulsed by me being pregnant with someone elseโ€™s child? I can get rid of it for you.โ€

Edgarโ€™s eyes flashed with disgust, but he held back. โ€œDonโ€™t talk like that. Your child is mine too. Iโ€™ll take good care of him. Donโ€™t overthink it.โ€
