Chapter 399

A soft knock echoed through the hospital room, drawing Michaelโ€™s attention to the door. When he saw Edgarโ€™s face peering through the small window, he quickly realized that Debraโ€™s identity needed to remain concealed. He calmly called out, โ€œSorry, itโ€™s not convenient to see visitors right now. Please wait a moment.โ€

Michaelโ€™s refusal was direct, but Edgar merely nodded and took a seat in the corridor. Debra swiftly gathered the documents scattered across the table. She exchanged a glance with Michael, who gave her a subtle nod of understanding. Debra moved to the door, opened it, and stepped out into the corridor to face Edgar. โ€œMr. Odom, itโ€™s quite late. What brings you here?โ€

Edgar stood up, his tall frame towering over Debra. โ€œI heard that Michael was injured, so I came to see him.โ€

Debra pulled away slightly and said, โ€œAre you aware who caused the accident? Since Shelia was behind the accident, she must have someone backing her up.โ€

Edgar was silent for a moment before speaking. โ€œI donโ€™t want to hide anything from you, Ms. Frazier. I just learned that Jade was responsible for the accident. She didnโ€™t get my approval before doing this. Had I knownโ€ฆโ€

Debra interrupted him. โ€œIf you had known, you would have likely covered it up more thoroughly to protect Shelia.โ€ She knew Edgarโ€™s devotion to Shelia was unwavering, his support unyielding. That was his persona.

Edgar met her gaze, his expression serious. โ€œI will keep her in check. Even if itโ€™s personal, she shouldnโ€™t break the law.โ€

Debra scoffed. โ€œOthers might believe that, but I donโ€™t trust it coming from you. Iโ€™ll make sure Shelia pays for hurting Michael. If you truly think sheโ€™s at fault, please stay out of it.โ€

โ€œIโ€ฆโ€ Edgar opened his mouth to respond, but Michaelโ€™s voice echoed from inside the room. โ€œHow much longer will you be out there?โ€

Debra pushed open the door and stepped back into the room, Edgar following close behind. His gaze instinctively fell on the spot where Debra had been sitting. A thick stack of documents lay on the table, their contents hidden from view. Debraโ€™s figure blocked his line of sight, so he shifted his focus back to Michael.

He spoke earnestly. โ€œMr. Austin, my people are responsible for this accident. Please have your finance team prepare a detailed bill for the medical and other expenses, and I will cover everything.โ€

Michael chuckled. โ€œI donโ€™t think Iโ€™ve ever crossed paths with you, Mr. Odom.โ€

Edgar glanced at Debra; the implication was clear. Sheliaโ€™s attack on Michael was likely a warning to Debra. After all, everyone in Seamar City knew Michael was a cash cow for the Frazier family. If anything serious happened to him, the income the McKinney Group received from the Frazier family would take a major hit.

โ€œSince Mr. Odom wants to compensate, letโ€™s accept it,โ€ Debra said, turning back to Edgar. โ€œI assume you want us not to sue Shelia, right?โ€
