Chapter 400
This was a case of intentional homicide. If a private settlement couldn't be reached, Sheila would be behind bars for years. She hadn't hurt just anyone; Michael was a high-profile star. If her involvement were exposed, she would face the wrath of fans and critics alike.
Edgar expressed his remorse. โIโm really sorry. Iโll make sure Jade apologizes to you tomorrow.โ
Debra, however, was in no mood for apologies. She said brusquely, โSince youโve finished speaking, you can go now. Michael needs to rest, and we wonโt see you out.โ
Edgar nodded, understanding the dismissal. โAlright, I wonโt disturb Mr. Austinโs rest any further. However, Ms. Frazier, it seems you and Michael are no longer connected, right?โ
Debra glanced at the half-finished documents on the table before replying, โYes, I just came to visit an old friend. Since you mentioned it, why donโt you give me a ride home?โ
Her sudden request took Edgar aback. He frowned briefly, but given the circumstances, he had to agree. โThatโs my pleasure.โ
Debra didnโt wait for further pleasantries. She stepped out of the room ahead of Edgar, giving Michael a reassuring glance as she left. Marion had already warned Edgar, so he dared not lay a hand on her. By the time they reached the first floor, Debra noticed that all the reporters outside had been dealt with by Edgarโs people. The area was clear; not a soul in sight.
โMs. Frazier, please get in the car,โ Edgar said, opening the car door for her.
Debra got in, and Edgar sat beside her, making sure to keep a respectable distance. He was wary of any tricks Debra might pull, especially after the last incident where he had her beaten.
As the car turned a corner, Debra seemed to lose her balance and fell into Edgarโs arms. When she righted herself, her lips left a noticeable lipstick mark on his collar. Seeing the mark, she was satisfied and apologized, โIโm so sorry. The car space is so big, and I didnโt hold on.โ
Edgar adjusted his sleeve, unconcerned. โItโs fine.โ
When they arrived at Debraโs new apartment, she got out of the car. Edgar waited until she entered the apartment complex before instructing the driver, โDrive.โ
โYes, sir.โ
As Edgar watched Debra disappear into the building, he couldnโt shake off a sense of unease. Nothing had happened on the way. โSo, is this really just about getting her home?โ
Across town, Sheila had been anxiously pacing the living room, waiting for Edgar. She couldnโt understand why he was avoiding her, especially when he claimed to love her. Edgar had come home only to leave again, which left her feeling defeated and confused.
Just then, the front door opened. She rushed over and asked, โEdgar, why are you only back now?โ
Edgar adjusted his tie, replying, โJust dealt with some business.โ
