Chapter 407
The trainees whispered among themselves. โAshley was worse. Her makeup was a hot mess, and who knows how she looked on camera?โ โThe photographer was all over Freya and Debra. Us? We were just cannon fodder for the real stars.โ
Eve looked down at her food and felt her appetite vanish. She pushed her chair back and stood.
Freya, noticing Eveโs retreat, called out, โEve, donโt be silly. Our meals are portioned for a reason. If you donโt eat now, youโll be famished all night. And if you cave and snack later, you know itโll go straight to your hips.โ
Eveโs face fell. She was starving, but the thought of the camera adding ten pounds made her stomach churn. With a sigh, she sank back into her chair and began to poke at her food half-heartedly.
Across town, Juan was staring intently at a photograph in his office. It was a candid shot of him and Debra, who was eating cake.
Joe walked in, breaking the silence. โSir, thereโs news about Mrs. Nichols.โ
โWhere has she been staying lately?โ
โTidefall Towers. Her house was sold, and the Frazier familyโs assets are gone. It seems Mrs. Nichols might be in some financial trouble.โ Joe hesitated before adding, โMy sources say that Mrs. Nichols has started working as a trainee at the Potter Group. Not sure how reliable that is, though.โ
โA trainee?โ Juan echoed, his brows furrowing. He hadnโt known Debra had any interest in that field. She may think itโs an easy way to make ends meet, especially with the Frazier Group gone under,โ Joe suggested. โLife must be tough for her right now.โ
Juan remained silent. Joe added, โThis could be a chance to win her back.โ
โYou think so?โ Juan asked skeptically.
โAbsolutely. Mrs. Nichols is down on her luck. Itโs the perfect time to swoop in.โ Joe caught himself under Juanโs cold stare. โI mean, she needs someone, and you should think of a way to be that someone.โ
โHow should I do that?โ Juan muttered. He had never pursued anyone before, so he was clueless.
Joe scratched his head, thinking. โWell, I have no idea. Maybe get the โ36 Strategies of Loveโ?โ
โWhat is that?โ
โA book guiding people to love. Every tip is useful.โ
โGet me a copy then.โ
โOkay.โ Joe whipped out his phone and started tapping away.
Juan turned to his computer and typed into the search bar, โHow to win a girlโs heart?โ He read through the results, his frown deepening. โPour all your feelings into her heart and keep all her joy in yours,โ he read.
Joe, looking up from his phone, shuffled his feet awkwardly. โMr. Nichols, I donโt think thatโs quite what youโre looking for. To win a girlโs heart, first, you need to be humorous.โ
He glanced at Joe. โDo you think Iโm humorous?โ
Joe shifted uncomfortably. โWell, humor might not be your strong suit.โ
Juan leaned back in his chair, pondering. It was true; he wasnโt exactly known for his comedic timing.
