Chapter 500
โHow could there be robbers?โ Debra frowned. The place was a fortress, bristling with guards, maids, and bodyguards, not to mention the state-of-the-art security system. It was virtually impregnable. No ordinary robber could infiltrate it.
Erica tugged nervously at Debraโs arm. โThe police should be here any minute. Letโs not get involved. We should go.โ
Debra shook her head. โNo police. Iโm going in.โ
Randy was astounded. โDebra, donโt be reckless.โ
Debra glanced at the grand entrance, having a general idea of what was going on. She made a dash toward the house. Inside, the hall was chaotic and dark.
Suddenly, a pair of hands gripped her arms. โBoss, weโve got a woman here.โ
The robberโs voice caught the attention of their leader in the darkness.
โLet her go.โ
โButโฆโ
โI said, let her go.โ
The voice was unmistakable. Even though it was lowered, Debra knew exactly who it was.
โDebra, get out of here,โ Juan said weakly.
Debra ignored his warning, moving closer to the masked man. โStop this nonsense. The police will be here any second,โ she whispered.
Marion stiffened, and she added, โYouโve vented your anger. Itโs time to go.โ
Marion remained silent, but a subordinate stepped forward and said, โBoss, weโve controlled the whole Nichols family. Let me finish off Juan for you.โ
A sharp crack echoed as Marion struck the subordinate.
โBossโฆโ
โWithdraw,โ Marion commanded. โDo I need to repeat myself?โ
Marion turned, striding out of the estate. His subordinates released the Nichols familyโs staff and followed suit.
Debra took a deep breath. โTurn on the power.โ
โOn it.โ
Confirming safety, Joe dashed toward the electrical room on the first floor. Moments later, the house was bathed in light.
Juan was slumped by the sofa, his face pale. A knife was protruding from his left side, and blood pooled around him.
โFind a first-aid kit and call an ambulance!โ
The room sprang into action. Debra approached Juan, examining his wound. The knife was stuck in his left side. Fortunately, it hadnโt been pulled out; otherwise, he would be in much worse shape, likely dead before the ambulance arrived.
โHang in there. Donโt pull out the knife. Iโll get some clotting medicine. Weโll wait for the ambulance,โ she said.
Juan managed a weak smile. โAlright, I trust you.โ
