Chapter 542
If they annoyed the Nichols, things would not turn out well for them. Debra reassured them, โDonโt worry. Just demand cash. Act like you donโt know its worth. I promise youโll walk away with one billion dollars.โ Lauren remained uncertain, but Jenson sensed an opportunity and gripped her hand.
โAlright, weโll do it.โ
โGood. Take the ring. Weโll meet again tomorrow.โ
After Debra left, Lauren was still hesitant. โHoney, do you think we can trust Debra?โ
โDebra and the Nichols family arenโt on the same side. Remember, didnโt Juan have an affair recently? I think Debraโs looking for revenge. We might as well give it a shot.โ
โDadโs right,โ Hester chimed in bitterly. โIf we can get one billion dollars, at least all Iโve suffered wonโt have been in vain.โ
With that, they agreed. Early the next morning, they went to the Nichols familyโs house and caused a scene at the door. Melody was awakened by Sophieโs urgent knocking.
โWhat now? Whoโs here?โ
โItโs the Vargas. Theyโre causing trouble again.โ
โWhat? Why are they here again? Didnโt you give them the ring?โ Melody got up, annoyed.
Sophie explained, โTheyโre making a fuss, saying they donโt want the ring. Theyโre demanding cash.โ
โIdiots!โ Melody scowled. โThat ring is worth far more than cash. Are they out of their minds?โ
Debra, listening nearby, smiled. She knew what was happening. Melody was offering the ring because she simply didnโt have one billion dollars in cash. It wasnโt the conspiracy Debra had told the Vargas about. But the Vargas family likely didnโt know that someone as wealthy as Melody couldnโt easily produce that kind of money.
Moments later, Melody emerged from her room. Seeing Debra nearby, she gave her a sharp look.
โDidnโt you hear the commotion at the door? Youโre the hostess of the Nichols family. Arenโt you going to see whatโs going on?โ
โYouโre right, Grandma. But the Vargas family is here for you. I wouldnโt know how to handle it.โ
Debra blinked innocently, and Melody sighed. She steeled herself and went outside, where the Vargas family sat on the sofas, looking anything but polite.
โWe donโt want this ring. Hand over the cash,โ Jenson said, slamming the ring box onto the coffee table.
Melody narrowed her eyes. โYou need to understand something. This ring is worth more than one billion dollars. With it, youโd never have to worry about money again. Stop making trouble and get out of my house.โ
Jenson scoffed, crossing his arms. โMore than one billion dollars? We donโt care. If we donโt see the cash today, weโre not leaving.โ
Melodyโs face flushed with anger. This was blatant extortion. Debra stepped forward, placing a hand on Melodyโs arm to calm her.
โGrandma, donโt get worked up. Since they donโt want the ring, we can just take it back. One billion dollars is nothing, right?โ
