Chapter 570
Marion strode forward, protectively wrapping Debra behind him. โI told you, donโt mess with Debra,โ he said coldly. The cheerful expression vanished from Calebโs face. He set down his fork and knife, removing the scarf around his neck. His voice carried a deep, imposing authority as he said, โIs that how you speak to your grandfather?โ
Years of privilege had left Caleb slightly stocky. His face, though etched with a few wrinkles, was still mostly smooth. His hair, a sharp contrast of perfectly groomed white, might have made him look like a distinguished gentleman, but his eyes, like Marionโs, were sharp, wild, and dangerous.
โMarion,โ Debra interjected, โCaleb didnโt give me a hard time. We were just having a meal together.โ
Marionโs gaze fell on the plate of sandwiches. He stepped forward, picked one up, and popped it into his mouth, as if to check for anything suspicious. โItโs a little salty,โ he said, his tone flat.
Debra crossed her arms. โI made those sandwiches.โ
His expression changed instantly. โDelicious.โ
Calebโs face darkened. Marion was just like his fatherโsoft-hearted when it came to love.
โYouโve had the sandwiches. Now Iโm taking her with me. Any objections?โ Marion asked.
Caleb leaned back. โI went to the trouble of preparing a meal for my granddaughter-in-law, and now you want to whisk her away just like that? Debra, do you want to leave?โ
Debra looked at Marion and said softly, โLetโs stay. Iโm hungry.โ
Marion frowned. โDebra says sheโs hungry. Whereโs the food?โ
โHmph, look at you. Romance before family,โ Caleb grumbled, leading them from the kitchen.
The servants had already prepared a change of clothes for Caleb. He soon returned to the grand hall, dressed immaculately, as though he hadnโt just been cooking. Their dining table was rarely shared with outsiders, but Debra chose a seat closest to Caleb, signaling for Marion to sit beside her. He complied, though somewhat reluctantly, simply because Debra had asked him to.
The long dining table stretched the distance between them, making them feel feet apart, unlike a cozy family gathering. Calebโs thoughts drifted back to when his son, Dwayne, was still alive, seated just like this beside Itzel. He hadnโt imagined heโd see such a scene again after all these years.
Maintaining his authority, Caleb asked, โThe Frazier family may have gone bankrupt, but we donโt care about such things. I do have a question, though. When did you realize who I was?โ
โThe moment I first saw you,โ Debra replied. โThat +25 bonus, limited editionโฆ itโs hard not to notice.โ
Caleb raised an eyebrow, intrigued. He looked down and glanced at the butler. โYou picked this?โ
The butler stammered, โMr. Houston Sr., I bought it based on your instructions, but you didnโt specify a budget.โ
The poor butler was caught in the crossfire.
