Chapter 588
As soon as Debra stepped into the Nichols family's house, she heard the sharp sound of shattering glass. A teacup smashed near her feet, shards scattering across the floor.
Glancing up, Debra saw Melody seated on the couch, her face cold with displeasure. Across from her stood Juan, ramrod straight in a sleek black suit, his expression stoic as he endured her scolding.
Melody sneered, her words dripping with sarcasm. โJuan, I know youโre busy with work, but you should also spare a thought for your home. Tell me, how many days has it been since youโve seen your wife? Sheโs moved out, and you donโt even seem to care. If youโre not careful, one day youโll wake up to find sheโs run off with someone.โ
Debra frowned at the cutting remarks. Calmly, she stepped further into the room, offering Melody a polite smile. โGrandma, whatโs gotten you so upset? What happened?โ
Melody shot her a sideways glance. โI wouldnโt dare let you call me โGrandma.โ Letโs stick to โMrs. Nichols Sr.,โ just like before.โ
Debra ignored the taunt, her gaze shifting toward Juan. โJuan, whatโs got Grandma so angry? Did you do something to upset her?โ
Juan glanced at her, a look that clearly said, โItโs about you.โ
Debra pretended not to understand. She turned back to Melody, her smile unwavering. โGrandma, thereโs no need to be angry. Even though Juan and I live separately now, our relationship is as strong as ever. Juan would never be unfaithful.โ
She wrapped her arm around Juanโs, a display of affection that irritated Melody even more.
She no longer bothered hiding her distaste. Rising from her seat, she pointed an accusing finger at Debra. โHow dare you stand there and play the loving wife in front of me? Juan treats you so well, and what do you do? You found yourself some pretty boy behind his back.โ
Debra blinked innocently. โGrandma, you canโt just accuse me like that without any evidence, especially in front of Juan.โ
โYou want evidence? Fine. Iโll show you the evidence,โ Melody snorted, pulling out a stack of photographs from her handbag.
As the photos fluttered to the floor, a flicker of emotion crossed Juanโs face.
Melody jabbed a finger toward the pictures. โLook at them, Debra. Donโt you feel ashamed?โ
Debra looked down and smiled. โSo, this is what youโre upset about? Itโs all just a misunderstanding.โ
โMisunderstanding?โ Melodyโs voice grew louder. โYou have the nerve to say that. Now, tell me who this pretty boy is.โ
Debra held the photos. โDid you send someone to follow me?โ
Melody stiffened. โIf I hadnโt, how else would I have found out about your dirty secret?โ
โI understand you donโt like that Juan and I have reconciled. Youโve been looking for something to prove Iโve been unfaithful so that I get nothing in the divorce settlement, right?โ Debra asked.
Melodyโs face flushed with embarrassment, but she didnโt back down. โIf you did something wrong, losing out in the divorce is your own fault.โ
