Chapter 624
The cameraman scrambled off in a panic, leaving Debra and Juan hiding behind the trees. Juan was about to chase after him, but Debra stopped him, her hand gripping his tightly.
โDonโt. They arenโt after him. If he stays with us, heโll be in even more danger.โ
Juanโs brows knitted together. โWhatโs going on? Are you hiding something from me?โ
โThis isnโt the time for explanations. We have to move.โ Debra grabbed his arm and pulled him deeper into the forest. Whoever was targeting them had spotted them. They needed to find a place to hide fast.
โWhatโs going on?โ Juanโs question echoed behind her. Debra was wondering the same thing. So far, she couldnโt identify these people. They might be sent by Edgar, Drake, Shelia, or Melody.
Debraโs mind raced, weighing all the possibilities. Judging by how their attackers moved, they looked like professionals. That pointed to Edgar or Drake. But then again, this was Seamar City. There were plenty of people who wanted Juan dead.
โThey know our every move. They mustโve known we were coming here for this reality show, Juan. Have you offended anyone recently?โ
โIโve made plenty of enemies, but the only one whoโd shoot at me is Marion.โ
Debra nearly tripped at the answer.
โBe careful!โ Juan caught her just as she was about to fall. Debra winced at the sharp pain in her ankle.
โTheyโre close. Donโt worry about me. I can keep going.โ
The attackers were only about 200 meters away now. The terrain here was tricky. The dense forest provided cover, but there were also plenty of hidden dangers. If they got lost or caught, it would be the end.
She endured the pain, trying to march on. Juan stopped her.
โYouโre injured. Stop pushing yourself.โ
โWhat are you doing? Put me down.โ
โThis wayโs faster. If you want to live, stop arguing.โ
Juan picked her up, carrying her into the woods. Debra went quiet as Juan pressed on. They moved for about two kilometers, constantly changing direction. By now, their pursuers should have lost track of them.
Juan was panting. His face was pale and drawn from the strain.
โPut me down now.โ
โThereโs a cave up ahead.โ
โAre you serious? How is that possible?โ
Debra followed his gaze and saw a small cave, half-hidden by overgrown shrubs. The rain had started to fall, and Juan looked like he was about to collapse. Finding any sort of shelter felt like a miracle.
Juan set Debra down, and the two of them supported each other as they made their way into the cave. Just in case, Debra camouflaged the entrance with some branches and leaves. The space inside wasnโt big, but it was enough to shield them from the elements, though it was a little damp.
As they caught their breath, Debra wrinkled her nose. โDo you smell that? Itโs like sea air.โ
