Chapter 666
โBastard!โ Debra cursed.
Drake, however, was unperturbed. โMs. Frazier, youโre back.โ
The bodyguard was even more shocked than Drake. Anyone else would have fled by now.
โOf course, I came back,โ Debra yelled. โDrake, youโre insane! What did I do wrong that you asked your men to kill me?โ
She grabbed the gun holstered at his waist and snapped, โIf you want me dead, shoot me in front of my face.โ She observed his expression, knowing it was not his order.
When she escaped earlier, she debated running away. But she quickly realized how unrealistic that was. She wasnโt familiar with Flesta, and Edgarโs influence was far-reaching. They had all the means to find her. Plus, she didnโt have any money. If she got caught while on the run, she would lose all of Drakeโs trust. Drake hated betrayal, and her fate wouldnโt be much better than Peterโs.
It was better to return on her own terms, to earn his trust. But to justify her return after abandoning such a golden chance to escape, she needed a believable storyโsomething he couldnโt easily dispute.
And as expected, Drake believed that she had misunderstood him.
He snorted, โIf I wanted you dead, I wouldnโt need to have you drowned at sea. Use your brain.โ
Playing dumb, she retorted, โBut those men are your subordinates.โ
โMy men donโt always follow my orders to the letter,โ Drake replied.
Debra crossed her arms. โFine. If your men tried to kill me without your say-so, I think you owe me an explanation.โ
Drake said, โI already had them thrown into the sea. Any other requests?โ
Debra was speechless. Lives meant nothing to Drake. He operated outside the law, not just in Orkgate but even here in Flesta.
โNo?โ he asked dryly.
โOf course, I have,โ Debra furrowed her brow. โThose two must have been hired. I want to know whoโs behind it.โ
โThatโs all?โ
โYes.โ
Drake laughed, and Debra frowned.
โWhatโs so funny?โ
โI thought youโd ask me to kill the person pulling the stringsโฆโ
โDonโt worry. I have ways to deal with them.โ
Drake sauntered toward the elevator. โIโm tired andโฆโ
His nonchalant attitude made Debra wonder if heโฆ
The bodyguard following Drake muttered, โMr. Loweโฆโ
Debra shrugged. โI doubt that.โ
She knew Drake only cared about the secret hidden inโฆ
