Chapter 666

โ€œBastard!โ€ Debra cursed.

Drake, however, was unperturbed. โ€œMs. Frazier, youโ€™re back.โ€

The bodyguard was even more shocked than Drake. Anyone else would have fled by now.

โ€œOf course, I came back,โ€ Debra yelled. โ€œDrake, youโ€™re insane! What did I do wrong that you asked your men to kill me?โ€

She grabbed the gun holstered at his waist and snapped, โ€œIf you want me dead, shoot me in front of my face.โ€ She observed his expression, knowing it was not his order.

When she escaped earlier, she debated running away. But she quickly realized how unrealistic that was. She wasnโ€™t familiar with Flesta, and Edgarโ€™s influence was far-reaching. They had all the means to find her. Plus, she didnโ€™t have any money. If she got caught while on the run, she would lose all of Drakeโ€™s trust. Drake hated betrayal, and her fate wouldnโ€™t be much better than Peterโ€™s.

It was better to return on her own terms, to earn his trust. But to justify her return after abandoning such a golden chance to escape, she needed a believable storyโ€”something he couldnโ€™t easily dispute.

And as expected, Drake believed that she had misunderstood him.

He snorted, โ€œIf I wanted you dead, I wouldnโ€™t need to have you drowned at sea. Use your brain.โ€

Playing dumb, she retorted, โ€œBut those men are your subordinates.โ€

โ€œMy men donโ€™t always follow my orders to the letter,โ€ Drake replied.

Debra crossed her arms. โ€œFine. If your men tried to kill me without your say-so, I think you owe me an explanation.โ€

Drake said, โ€œI already had them thrown into the sea. Any other requests?โ€

Debra was speechless. Lives meant nothing to Drake. He operated outside the law, not just in Orkgate but even here in Flesta.

โ€œNo?โ€ he asked dryly.

โ€œOf course, I have,โ€ Debra furrowed her brow. โ€œThose two must have been hired. I want to know whoโ€™s behind it.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s all?โ€

โ€œYes.โ€

Drake laughed, and Debra frowned.

โ€œWhatโ€™s so funny?โ€

โ€œI thought youโ€™d ask me to kill the person pulling the stringsโ€ฆโ€

โ€œDonโ€™t worry. I have ways to deal with them.โ€

Drake sauntered toward the elevator. โ€œIโ€™m tired andโ€ฆโ€

His nonchalant attitude made Debra wonder if heโ€ฆ

The bodyguard following Drake muttered, โ€œMr. Loweโ€ฆโ€

Debra shrugged. โ€œI doubt that.โ€

She knew Drake only cared about the secret hidden inโ€ฆ
