Chapter 680
โMarion,โ Debra said suddenly, โthe first time we met was at that auction, wasnโt it?โ
Marion nodded. โYes, it was.โ
โBack then, you were deliberately bidding against me, just to get my attention, werenโt you?โ
โYes.โ
Marion chuckled, and Debra frowned playfully. โYouโre sneaky. Who taught you to catch a girlโs attention that way?โ
With a quiet laugh, Marion admitted, โIt was the only idea I could come up with at the time.โ
Debraโs voice dropped. โWhat if I hadnโt shown up that night? Or what if Iโd shown up looking a mess?โ That auction was a pivotal moment. If she had tried to mimic Sheliaโs style in her last life and ended up a laughingstock, Marion might never have noticed her. He might have even thought she was ridiculous.
Marionโs gaze intensified. โIt wouldnโt have mattered. Whether you were dressed to impress or in a mess, as long as you showed up, Iโd have known you were the one I wanted.โ
โSweet talker,โ Debra muttered. After all, in her previous life, their paths hadnโt crossed at all.
Before she could dwell on it further, Marion cupped her face in his hands, his deep eyes brimming with emotion. His voice dropped to a hushed whisper. โDebra, I will never lie to you.โ
Debra smiled softly, her eyes meeting his. โI know. Even if the whole world lied to me, I believe you wouldnโt.โ
Their lips met in a slow, passionate kiss that seemed to last forever. It wasnโt until they were both nearly out of breath that Marion finally pulled away, his voice husky. โYouโre doing this on purpose, arenโt you? Tempting me.โ
Debraโs cheeks flushed as she gently pushed him. โIโm going to take a bath.โ
She darted towards the bathroom and left Marion grinning after her. But as soon as she was out of sight, his smile faded. His eyes darkened as they landed on the image frozen on the TV screen.
The next morning, news broke online that the Odom Groupโs stock had plummeted overnight. Debra was surprised by the swiftness of Chaceโs actions. As she was processing the news, Marion walked out of the bedroom, placing a new phone in her hand.
โI got you a replacement,โ he said. โTry not to lose it, alright?โ
โI know,โ Debra smiled back.
But just as she was about to call Chace, Marion interrupted her.
โDid you forget something important?โ
โHuh?โ
Marion smirked and pulled something from his pocket. It was her missing ring. Debra immediately reached out to grab it, but Marion pulled his hand back, holding the ring just out of her reach. โYou care more about losing your phone than losing this ring? Looks like Iโm not as important as I thought.โ
Debra pouted, stomping her foot lightly. โI knew you had it. Stop teasing me and put it back on.โ
Marion finally gave in. He gently took her hand and slipped the ring back onto her finger, his tone serious. โDonโt lose it again.โ
