Chapter 681
Debra gazed at the ring and nodded. Marion patted her head. โIโll take you back to work today.โ
โAlright.โ
For the past few days, the McKinney Group had been resting on Benโs capable shoulders. Debra wasnโt sure how well he had managed, but she knew it must have been a challenge.
Halfway through the journey, Debra opened her phone. While she was in Flesta, she gave Chace her new number. As expected, a message from him, sent the previous night, popped up as soon as her phone came to life.
Edgar had pulled most of the funds out of the Odom Group, leading to a complete halt in their operations. If they couldnโt restore things within three days, all partnerships would dissolve. Moreover, rumors were spreading like wildfire, damaging the publicโs perception of the company and causing its stock to plummet. It also triggered a wave of broken contracts from major partners. Bankruptcy loomed ominously on the horizon.
Debraโs lips curled slightly. It seemed they had this under control.
To avoid arousing suspicion among the staff, Debra had Marion wait for her in the parking lot. As she stepped into the office building, all eyes turned to her. She could see the disdain and scorn in their gazes.
She frowned slightly, moving towards the employee elevator as she always had. Suddenly, a security guard rushed up to block her way.
โSorry, non-employees arenโt allowed in here.โ
โWhat? Donโt you know who I am?โ
โI do. Youโre the former GM, but youโve resigned, so by the rules, you canโt enter the office area.โ
โWho told you I resigned?โ
โMs. Frazier, you were dismissed. I think itโs best if you stop hanging around here. If you keep it up, itโll only get more embarrassing for you.โ
A few employees passed by and rolled their eyes.
โYeah, spoiled rich ladies should just go home and serve their husbands.โ
In the workplace, people often flattered the powerful and stomped on the weak. Debra had known this, but it still stung to be looked down upon by her own employees.
Before she could make sense of what was happening, Ben appeared, rushing out of the elevator.
โMs. Frazier,โ Ben acknowledged, her expression grim. Debra knew something serious had happened in the company. โGive me a reasonable explanation.โ She had been away for just a couple of days, and the company had changed so much.
Chapter 681
Ben wanted to speak but, noticing the people around them, he barked, โWhat are you all staring at? Donโt you have work to do? Ms. Frazier is here on Mr. McKinneyโs orders. Next time I catch any of you gossiping on company time, youโre all fired.โ
The employees, wary of Benโs authority, quickly scattered. Opening a path for Debra, Ben said, โThis way, please.โ
As Debra approached the employee elevators, she noticed a new card-swipe gate installed in front of them. Entry was impossible without swiping a card. Ben immediately swiped his card and gestured for Debra to proceed. Debra didnโt say a word, her face still cold as she stepped inside.
Once inside the executive elevator, Ben sighed and finally spoke up. โMadam, a lot happened while you were away.โ
