Chapter 681

Debra gazed at the ring and nodded. Marion patted her head. โ€œIโ€™ll take you back to work today.โ€

โ€œAlright.โ€

For the past few days, the McKinney Group had been resting on Benโ€™s capable shoulders. Debra wasnโ€™t sure how well he had managed, but she knew it must have been a challenge.

Halfway through the journey, Debra opened her phone. While she was in Flesta, she gave Chace her new number. As expected, a message from him, sent the previous night, popped up as soon as her phone came to life.

Edgar had pulled most of the funds out of the Odom Group, leading to a complete halt in their operations. If they couldnโ€™t restore things within three days, all partnerships would dissolve. Moreover, rumors were spreading like wildfire, damaging the publicโ€™s perception of the company and causing its stock to plummet. It also triggered a wave of broken contracts from major partners. Bankruptcy loomed ominously on the horizon.

Debraโ€™s lips curled slightly. It seemed they had this under control.

To avoid arousing suspicion among the staff, Debra had Marion wait for her in the parking lot. As she stepped into the office building, all eyes turned to her. She could see the disdain and scorn in their gazes.

She frowned slightly, moving towards the employee elevator as she always had. Suddenly, a security guard rushed up to block her way.

โ€œSorry, non-employees arenโ€™t allowed in here.โ€

โ€œWhat? Donโ€™t you know who I am?โ€

โ€œI do. Youโ€™re the former GM, but youโ€™ve resigned, so by the rules, you canโ€™t enter the office area.โ€

โ€œWho told you I resigned?โ€

โ€œMs. Frazier, you were dismissed. I think itโ€™s best if you stop hanging around here. If you keep it up, itโ€™ll only get more embarrassing for you.โ€

A few employees passed by and rolled their eyes.

โ€œYeah, spoiled rich ladies should just go home and serve their husbands.โ€

In the workplace, people often flattered the powerful and stomped on the weak. Debra had known this, but it still stung to be looked down upon by her own employees.

Before she could make sense of what was happening, Ben appeared, rushing out of the elevator.

โ€œMs. Frazier,โ€ Ben acknowledged, her expression grim. Debra knew something serious had happened in the company. โ€œGive me a reasonable explanation.โ€ She had been away for just a couple of days, and the company had changed so much.

Ben wanted to speak but, noticing the people around them, he barked, โ€œWhat are you all staring at? Donโ€™t you have work to do? Ms. Frazier is here on Mr. McKinneyโ€™s orders. Next time I catch any of you gossiping on company time, youโ€™re all fired.โ€

The employees, wary of Benโ€™s authority, quickly scattered. Opening a path for Debra, Ben said, โ€œThis way, please.โ€

As Debra approached the employee elevators, she noticed a new card-swipe gate installed in front of them. Entry was impossible without swiping a card. Ben immediately swiped his card and gestured for Debra to proceed. Debra didnโ€™t say a word, her face still cold as she stepped inside.

Once inside the executive elevator, Ben sighed and finally spoke up. โ€œMadam, a lot happened while you were away.โ€
