Chapter 78
In the evening, Ericaโs new real estate project launched at the Emerald Hotel with a banquet. Being partly a member of the Houston family, Erica attracted considerable attention. Debra, having received an invitation, arrived in a striking aqua-blue dress, instantly becoming the center of attention.
โDebra!โ
Erica rushed over in her high heels and gave Debra a warm hug. Randy, holding Ericaโs dress, quickly followed.
โSlow down! Youโre still wearing heels!โ
Ignoring him, Erica exclaimed, โThis launch is going to make me billions! Canโt I celebrate?โ
โDo as you please,โ Randy said, unwilling to contradict Erica.
Debra looked around, but Marion was nowhere to be seen. Perhaps he had given up after receiving that message. That suited her just fine.
Debra noticed a familiar figure outside the door: Shelia, in a white dress, accompanied by Martin Parker, GM of the Nichols Group. He said ingratiatingly, โMr. Nichols couldnโt make it today. Let me show you around. Mr. Nichols has high hopes for this real estate project; it holds great value. This is a great opportunity to learn and meet new people.โ
Shelia nodded in understanding. The Emerald Hotel wasnโt overly luxurious, but she appreciated Martinโs efforts. Juan was indeed angry about the decline in her grades, but he hadnโt given up on her. This arrangement would pave the way for her future career.
Just then, Shelia spotted Debra and Erica nearby. Ericaโs presence intimidated her; she remembered Erica was on Randy and Marionโs team. Erica spotted Shelia and frowned. โWho invited her? Is she even worthy of being here?โ
โJuan sent her,โ Debra said blandly. Juan doted on Shelia, and Shelia having offended Erica previously, Juan likely intended for her to make amends at this event. Debra hadnโt expected Juan to be so considerate of Shelia.
โThis mistress has no sense of shame!โ Erica immediately ordered security, โEscort her out!โ
Shelia stepped forward hastily. โMiss Mathis, it was my fault last time. I want to apologize.โ Her voice was loud enough for everyone to hear. Shelia had a knack for playing innocent and seeking sympathy; Debra had seen it many times. Unmoved, Erica said coldly, โNo need for apologies. Youโre not welcome here. Security! Escort her out!โ
Shelia turned to Debra, pleading bitterly, โDebra, you know Iโm not like that. My relationship with Mr. Nichols is pure. Why did you speak ill of me to Miss Mathis?โ
