Chapter 880
โCathryn, is this true?โ Anton asked.
Cathryn replied calmly, โThe will is genuine, but there is a condition attached to it.โ She turned to look at Marion and continued, โThe condition set by my father is that Marion must marry me. Only then will he be the legitimate heir to the Bernard Group and inherit all of my fatherโs assets.โ
Everyone then turned to look at Debra. Just moments ago, Marion had publicly acknowledged Debra as his wife, meaning he had violated Shawnโs request. As her fingers trembled, Marion tightened his grip on her hand.
โMarion, when my father passed away, he entrusted me to you, asking you to take care of me for the rest of my life. You promised him. When he was alive, he always intended for you to marry me and become a part of the Bernard family. Everyone here knows that,โ Cathryn added.
The directors immediately echoed her words. โThatโs right. When Shawn was alive, he treated Marion like a son-in-law.โ
โBut you betrayed that trust. You took over the Bernard Group and turned your back on us, marrying this woman instead. You failed Shawn and Cathryn.โ They all pointed fingers at him, as if finally finding a chink in Marionโs armor.
This action annoyed Marion, and soon enough, a group of black-clad bodyguards rushed in and surrounded the directors. The directors were restrained and gasped in shock as Marion ordered, โCut off their fingers and throw them out to feed the dogs.โ
โYes, sir.โ The bodyguards swiftly drew their knives and, in one swift motion, severed the directorsโ index fingers. The directors wailed in agony, their screams echoing through the room. Cathryn was terrified, as she had never witnessed such a gruesome scene before. The remaining directors fell silent.
โIf reason doesnโt penetrate, violence will,โ Marion said, his words sending a shiver down everyoneโs spine. Over the past year, he had rarely resorted to violence, leading them to believe he had retired from his old ways. But now, he had shown them that he was as ruthless as ever.
โMarion, how could you do this to them? They are the pillars of the company,โ Cathryn protested weakly.
Marion merely glanced at her, and Cathryn shuddered under his gaze. The directors, realizing that Cathryn was no match for Marion, dared not speak further.
โOut of respect for Shawn, I have been putting up with you. I never hit women, but donโt push me,โ Marion said coldly.
Cathryn instantly shed tears of humiliation. They had known each other for years, and she had always loved him. Yet, today, he had publicly shamed her. Biting her lip, she said, โIf you want to inherit my fatherโs legacy, you must fulfill your promise and marry me.โ
