Debra said, โYou did pick some great fruit. Youโve done a better job than my housekeeper.โ
Marion smiled. He wouldnโt reveal that he had taste-tested each fruit, which was why it took him so long.
A faint buzzing sound emanated from the bedroom.
Erica said, โSomeoneโs phone is vibrating.โ
Everyone exchanged glances, and Randy said, โI never keep my phone on vibrate.โ
Marion remained silent, and Erica pulled out her phone. โMineโs here.โ
Debra suddenly remembered she had set her phone to vibrate after hanging up on Joe yesterday.
She quickly pushed back her chair and ran to the bedroom. There, her phone was vibrating on the bedside table. It was Joe calling.
Debra answered, โHello?โ
Relieved, Joe said, โMadam, youโve finally answered.โ
โWhatโs up?โ
โMr. Nichols was looking for you all night. He found out you left with Marion and got so mad that he hung up on me. He didnโt go to the office today. Could you please call him and tell him about it? There are important decisions for him to make.โ
โHe was looking for me all night?โ Debra was puzzled. Juan never seemed to care about her well-being. Debra checked her phone and saw numerous missed calls from last night, but Juan had stopped calling around three in the morning.
โMadam, I think Mr. Nichols cares about you. Please call him back. Maybeโฆโ
โI see. Thanks, Joe.โ
Debra hung up and decided to call Juan. It rang once before a mechanical voice sounded. โSorry, the subscriber you have called is currently busy.โ
She then sent him a message: [Drank too much last night. Whatโs the deal?]
Immediately, a notification popped up showing she had been blocked.
Debra felt helpless, wondering what Juan was up to.
Curious about Debraโs prolonged stay in the bedroom, Erica came over and asked, โIs everything okay?โ
โJuan called me all night, and now heโs blocked me.โ
โWhat? Thatโs crazy!โ
Erica got irritated, remembering how Juan had scolded her for Sheilaโs sake. โHow did you convince yourself to marry a guy like that?โ
Debra replied, โYou wonโt believe it, but I pursued him.โ
Erica was stunned, looking at her as if doubting her judgment. Snapping out of it, she added, โWell, I guess you couldnโt have known what he was like before you got married. To be fair, he is good-looking. Itโs reasonable for a girl to get a little obsessed.โ
Debra smiled wryly.
At noon, she decided to go back to the Nichols familyโs house. She didnโt want to make things too tense with Juan, and since Joe had asked for her help, she felt obliged. She went back in a taxi and saw Sophie sweeping the yard when she arrived. Overjoyed, Sophie quickly rushed to open the door for her.
