Chapter 926
Liza turned her head and observed their interaction.
โDrake, youโre despicable!โ Liza shouted. โJust a moment ago, you claimed Debra wasnโt with you. Now you have the nerve to bring her over. I can see you have no respect for me.โ
She raised her hand high, ready to slap Drake. Kale stepped forward and caught her wrist in an iron grip.
โLet me go!โ Liza shrieked, struggling against his hold.
But Kale stood his ground. Drake coldly stared at her, fed up with her arrogance. Now that their engagement was broken and Bert wasnโt around, he saw no need to humor her anymore.
Debra tugged at Drakeโs sleeve and whispered, โYouโve made your point and should let her go. Sheโs still an Eaton.โ
He turned to her. โYou werenโt so timid when you confronted me.โ
โSheโs irrational,โ Debra said. โYouโre unlike her, are you?โ
Unwilling to quibble with her, he instructed Kale, โLet her go.โ
Kale released Lizaโs hand, stepping back without a word. Liza turned to Drake, who wasnโt looking at her with his usual gentlemanly demeanor. His expression was distant and cold. The events at the Legacy Hotel earlier replayed in her mind, and an unsettling fear crept into her chest.
Unwilling to continue the confrontation, she turned to her maid.
โHave you packed everything?โ
โYes, itโs all done.โ
โThen letโs go.โ
Liza glared at Debra one last time and led Cathryn to leave. Debra smiled in response, but her smile faded when her eyes landed on Cathryn.
Just as Liza was about to step out of the house, a commotion from upstairs drew everyoneโs attention. Lara came rushing down the staircase and dropped to her knees in front of Drake.
โBoss, Iโm so sorry. Iโm willing to accept any punishment.โ
She paused and added, โI accidentally spilled the truth to Miss Eaton. Itโs because of me, my fault, that she broke off the engagement. Itโs all my fault.โ
Debra glanced at Lara with newfound curiosity. Her act was quite convincing. Drake, however, remained unmoved. He cast her a cold glance before turning to Liza. โMiss Eaton, is this true?โ
Liza replied with a frown, โSo what if it is? I forced her to tell me. What are you going to do? Take it out on a maid?โ
โOf course not,โ Drake replied evenly. โIf it was unintentional, then letโs leave it at that.โ He glanced at Kale, who quickly took the hint. โMr. Lowe forgives you. Get up now.โ
โThank you, Boss.โ Lara rose to her feet and shrank to the side.
But just as the tension seemed to ease, Drake turned to Debra, his gaze sharp and probing. โDid you really forget to wear the jewelry, or did you leave them behind on purpose?โ
