Chapter 927
Lara anxiously looked at Debra, holding her breath. Debra met Drakeโs eyes and said, โYes, I did it on purpose.โ As Drakeโs eyes narrowed, she added, โThose jewels were expensive. I couldnโt wear them when you had a fiancรฉe. I was going to pretend I forgot to wear them, but Lara didnโt understand, insisting on bringing them to me. How could I accept them?โ She glanced at Liza and asked, โMiss Eaton, you agree with me, right?โ
Liza scoffed, โAt least you know your place.โ
Disinterested in continuing the conversation, she hooked her arm through Cathrynโs and said, โLetโs go.โ Cathrynโs mind was elsewhere. She wanted to see how Drake would handle Debra. Drake turned his attention back to Debra.
โBoss,โ Kale started to speak, but Drake cut him off with a dismissive wave. โSo, this was all just a misunderstanding?โ
โExactly,โ Debra responded quickly, knowing when to stand her ground and when to back down. Drake believed her, given how scared she had been at the gate earlier.
โItโs getting late. Go rest,โ he said.
Debra was surprised that he was letting it go so easily. Just as she was about to take Lara upstairs, Drake spoke up, โYou go up. She stays.โ Lara trembled at his words.
Chapter 107
Debra tried to explain, โThis is all my fault. If you want to punish someone, punish me. Donโt take it out on Lara.โ
โWhy would I do that?โ Drake laughed. โDo you think Iโm some kind of beast who only knows how to hurt women?โ
โArenโt you?โ Debra retorted.
Drakeโs face darkened, and she quickly backpedaled, โIโm sorry, I misspoke. Youโre not that kind of man. Only weak men hurt women, right?โ
โDebra!โ Drake growled.
โWhy are you getting angry? I wasnโt talking about you,โ Debra said, walking over to Lara and taking her hand. โDonโt be scared, Mr. Lowe wonโt do anything to you. This wasnโt your fault. If he gives you any trouble, let me know.โ
Before Lara could respond, Drake sneered, โWhat good would that do? You have even less say than she does.โ
โDrake!โ Debra exclaimed.
โAre you mad? I held back when you were insulting me. Get upstairs before I change my mind,โ he said.
Debra could sense his bad mood. She squeezed Laraโs hand, but Lara whispered, โThis is my fault. Iโll accept Mr. Loweโs punishment.โ She then walked over to Drakeโs side. Debra lingered, and Drake was not happy. โUpstairs. Donโt make me say it again.โ
