Chapter 928
Debra took a deep breath, trying to hide her worry. She couldnโt let Drake suspect her relationship with Lara.
โAlright,โ she said nonchalantly, heading upstairs. But then, a sharp slap echoed from below. She looked back and saw Lara crumpled on the floor.
โWhat the hell?โ she shouted.
Drake shot her a cold glance. โGo on.โ
Lara quickly spoke. โItโs all my fault. Mrs. Houston, donโt worry about me. Iโll take whatever punishment.โ
As Debra was unwilling to move, Drake signaled to Kale. โEscort Mrs. Houston upstairs.โ
โNo need. Iโll go up myself,โ Debra said, ascending the stairs.
Drake shifted his attention back to Lara, who was shaking like a leaf.
โBoss,โ Kale ventured cautiously, โshe messed up your plans. Should we deal with her?โ
Normally, Drake wouldnโt hesitate to exact a severe punishment, but this time he only looked disgusted.
โDock her a monthโs pay.โ
โWhat?โ
Drakeโs gaze flicked toward him, cool and sharp. โDidnโt you hear me? Fine, forget it.โ Before Kale could process the sudden shift, Lara scrambled to her feet, bowed profusely, and hurried out of the room.
Kale didnโt get it. โBoss, she made a huge mistake, and youโre just letting her off the hook?โ
Drake leaned back. โShe kind of helped me.โ
โWhat? How?โ Kale was baffled.
Lara was the cause of the broken engagement and ruined banquet. From any angle, it couldnโt be considered good news.
Drake gave a faint, enigmatic smile. โNever mind. You wonโt get it.โ
Loosening his tie, he then strutted up the stairs. He couldnโt help but recall his annoyance when Liza was in his house. He had been constantly on the verge of snapping but held back for the sake of the alliance with the Eatons. Now that the engagement was called off, he didnโt have to endure that anymore.

Once inside his study, he tossed his tie onto the desk.
Kale felt compelled to remind him, โBoss, you should wear your tie properly.โ
Drake leaned back in his chair. โI hate wearing ties.โ
Kale tried again. โBut youโre the head of the Lowe Group. Itโs important to maintain appearances.โ
Drake rubbed his temples. โThis job is a goddamn nightmare.โ
The next morning, Debra noticed the absence of Lara, who had usually brought her breakfast. Instead, a new maid arrived with the meal.
โWhereโs Lara?โ
โShe upset Mr. Lowe last night. Mr. Lowe didnโt punish her, but Mr. McLean put her in confinement as a disciplinary measure.โ
Debra was surprised by Drakeโs leniency. After all, he had always been ruthless. Anyway, it was good news that Lara was fine.
But Debraโs relief soon turned to mild irritation when her eyes landed on the cart. On it sat a single bowl of plain soup.
She frowned. โWhat is this? Egg-drop soup without the egg?โ
