Chapter 942
The maid hesitated. โMr. Fermin Eaton is often busy with company matters, so heโs rarely home.โ
โIs he home today?โ
โUhโฆโ
โWhat? Donโt tell me no one is at home.โ
The maid stammered, โMr. Fermin Eaton is home, but heโs busy with work. He might not be able to see you right now.โ
Melody insisted, โIs this how you treat your guests? Go tell Mr. Fermin Eaton that if he doesnโt come to see me, Iโll pack my things and leave immediately.โ
Her tone left no room for negotiation. The maid could only nod and leave to deliver the message.
In the bedroom, Garland was upside-down, reciting lines from economic textbooks.
The maid opened the door and froze at the sight. โMr. Fermin Eaton, youโre doing this again.โ
Garlandโs pained voice broke through. โVerna, perfect timing. A little help here.โ
But not far off, Juan cut him off. โTen more minutes. Hold it.โ
โI canโt. Iโm about to collapse.โ
โIf you collapse, get back up and keep going.โ
โThis is brutal.โ
Verna interjected, โMr. Nichols, maybe we should let Mr. Fermin Eaton down. Your grandmother wants to see him.โ
โMe?โ Garlandโs arms gave way, and he flopped to the floor. โWhy would she want to see me?โ
Verna glanced at Juan and explained, โShe seemed to be upset about not seeing Mr. Eaton Sr. these past few days.โ
Juan grasped the situation. Earlier, he had asked Bert to send Melody back to Seamar City, but her stubbornness was legendary. Not even Bertโs frosty attitude could budge her.
Garland groaned, โDo I have to go? I donโt want to meet her at all.โ
โGo meet her,โ Juan said.
โWhat am I supposed to say? Should I tell her to stop clinging to my dad because heโs not interested in her? Would she rip me apart?โ Garland grumbled, shuddering at the memory of Juanโs scarred back.
โWell,โ Verna chimed in, โMrs. Nichols Sr. says that if you refuse to meet her, sheโll pack up and go home.โ
Garland perked up. โReally? Then let her leave, and everyone wins. Sheโs happy. Iโm happy, and Juan is happy.โ
Juan shot him a glance that conveyed exactly how little he thought of Garlandโs intelligence. After all, Melody was a guest. If she left because of this, Bert would definitely send Garland to drag her back from the airport. That was to save the Eaton familyโs reputation.
Juan said, โGo meet her and say whatever you like.โ
Garland asked tentatively, โCan I annoy her and make her leave?โ
