The cleaners were devastated, and Lara turned even paler. Drake sat on the sofa and said, “Why are you back here? What are you up to?”

“Boss, I’m sorry I messed up, but I swear, I didn’t say anything,” Lara pleaded.

“Is that so?” Drake scoffed. “I’d be a fool to believe you.”

“I’m telling the truth,” Lara said. “They brought me back to get rid of me. You can’t fall for their trap.”

Drake pondered her words. “Whose idea was it to send you back? Debra’s or Marion’s?”

“It was Mrs. Houston’s idea,” Lara replied.

Drake nodded. “Well then, you can stay.”

The quick change in his attitude took Lara aback.

“Boss, isn’t this a bit hasty?” Kale interjected.

“Do you think so?”

“Yes.”

“Then go to my office and print out a new contract for her. Sign it, stamp it, and then it won’t be hasty anymore.”

“Boss…”

“Do it.”

“Yes, boss.”

Lara watched Kale leave, still in disbelief.

“Go upstairs. You don’t need to clean.”

“Then what should I do?”

“Whatever you want. Can you order takeout?”

“Yes, I can.”

“Get me a cup of bubble tea. Full sugar and no ice.”

Lara was confused.

Drake stood up and addressed the cleaning staff. “Make sure you clean thoroughly. I’ll inspect it after I finish my tea. If it’s not clean, you’ll be cleaning again tomorrow. Marion will foot the bill.”

His nonchalance struck Lara dumb. This was nothing like she had imagined.

Across town at the Eaton Mansion, Melody had been staying for several days, but Bert had barely shown his face. She was caught in a dilemma of leaving or staying.

When a maid entered the room, Melody got up and asked eagerly, “Is Bert willing to see me now?”

“Well, Mr. Eaton Sr. is very busy. I just asked the butler, and he said Mr. Eaton Sr. was out.”

Melody slumped into the chair and complained, “It’s been days. If he doesn’t want to see me, I’ll just leave.”

“Mr. Eaton Sr. has given his instructions. If you wish to leave, we will arrange a first-class ticket for you and have your luggage sent ahead,” said the maid.

The news injured Melody’s pride. It was a bitter pill to swallow.

Melody huffed, “What’s the meaning of this? Are you trying to kick me out?”

The maid lowered her head. “No, you’ve misunderstood, Mrs. Nichols Sr.”

Melody snorted, “Juan hasn’t been found yet, so I can’t leave. Does the Eaton family have no one capable of taking charge aside from Bert?”

“Well…”

“Well, I’ve heard that Mr. Fermin Eaton has taken over the leadership. I’ve been staying in this house for days now, yet I’ve not once seen him.”
