Chapter 110
“Jay…” Her mumbled words struck him like a ten-thousand-pound weight crashing into his heart. His body froze, his senses overwhelmed by her voice. She lifted her chin, a smile playing on her delicate face. Her soft lips met his in a deep kiss.
He was dazed, lost in the kiss. He could have easily pulled away; he knew she was acting under the influence of drugs. But he couldn't bring himself to do it. He couldn't refuse the kiss; it felt like a spell. She deepened the kiss, and when her tongue parted his lips, his body stiffened. Yet, he opened his mouth, surrendering to her. She was probably the only person he would allow such intimacy with.
His blood felt like it was boiling. He'd always been cold, unmoved by women. But she was different. Her kiss, her breath, every touch, entranced him.
Finally, she whispered hoarsely, “Jay, it’s so uncomfortable… so uncomfortable…”
He snapped back to reality. He'd almost taken her! His dark eyes, though full of desire, were masked by forced restraint. Even if he wanted her, it wasn't right under these circumstances.
Taking a deep breath, he pressed the nurse's call button. Soon, the doctor and nurse arrived, administering a sedative that calmed Grace.
Others might not have noticed, but Terrence, Jason's longtime associate, sensed something was amiss. His boss seemed to be suppressing something.
“Could it be…” Terrence gazed at Grace, a sudden understanding dawning. He realized that a man's care for a woman wasn't solely measured by desire, but by his ability to restrain himself.
Who would have thought Mr. Reed would forcefully suppress his desire for a woman?
“Mr. Reed’s care for her is probably carved into his bones!” Terrence thought as he left the room.
On Thanksgiving evening, the Stevens and Atkinson families celebrated together. Afterward, Lily and Sean went to the Stevens' back garden.
“Is there anything between you and Jason?” Lily asked abruptly.
Sean stiffened, his face paling as he stared at Lily. “What are you talking about? What could there be between us?”
“If not, why did you look so distraught after talking to Jason at our engagement party? And are Zoe's injury and the Stevens family's loan application rejection connected?”
