Chapter 115

“People can’t help but want to protect her at all costs,” someone said.

“Many call me cruel and cold-blooded, yet they wouldn't believe I want to protect her,” another voice replied.

“It’s okay. The thing you feared didn't happen last night. I arrived just in time,” Jason said.

“It really was him… who saved me!”

Grace raised her head, dazedly staring at the face inches from hers. “But why did you save me?” she thought. “He didn’t even come to town with me yesterday!”

“Sister, you called me,” he replied with a faint smile. “I rescued you. Luckily, I got there in time.”

“After a single phone call, he traveled over a hundred kilometers to save me?!”

Grace felt an indescribable shock.

He carried her to the bed and carefully tucked her under the covers. “Your hand was cut by the mirror shard. It’ll probably take a few days to heal. If there’s a scar, I’ll find the best doctors to remove it.”

Only then did Grace notice the bandage on her right hand. So distracted by the shocking revelations, she hadn’t realized the dull pain.

“How much of yesterday do you remember, Sister?” Jason asked seriously.

Grace bit her lip, not trying to hide anything. She relayed the events of the previous evening to Jason without reservation.

Jason’s expression darkened. “Her relatives… they sold her to a fool! They have guts!” he exclaimed. “If anyone dares to scheme against her, I won’t let them get away!”

Just then, Jason’s phone rang. He frowned at the caller ID, then turned to Grace. “I lied about my identity. Apologize however you like, but you’re hospitalized now; take care of yourself. I’ll get the doctor.”

Leaving the room, Jason instructed Terrence, who had been keeping watch outside: “Grace is awake. Call the doctor.”

Only then did he answer his phone. Mr. Reed’s voice boomed, “Why the delay?”

“I’m busy,” Jason replied calmly.

“Related to the woman you saved?” Mr. Reed asked frankly.

Jason wasn’t surprised Mr. Reed knew. He’d been pressed for time the previous night and had informed the town’s police. He’d mobilized their forces, and Grace’s relatives and the others were still at the police station. The Old Master’s investigation had been simple.

“What’s your relationship with her?” Mr. Reed’s tone turned cold.

“I’m protecting her,” Jason replied lazily. “Don’t touch her.”

“Don’t forget how your father died!” The Old Master’s voice rose. “Do you want to follow in his footsteps?”

Jason’s expression darkened. “Dad’s past is taboo to me!”

“I haven’t forgotten,” Jason replied coldly. “Grandpa, I’m not like Father. I wouldn’t risk everything for a woman, so don’t worry!”
