Chapter 115

โ€œPeople canโ€™t help but want to protect her at all costs,โ€ someone said.

โ€œMany call me cruel and cold-blooded, yet they wouldn't believe I want to protect her,โ€ another voice replied.

โ€œItโ€™s okay. The thing you feared didn't happen last night. I arrived just in time,โ€ Jason said.

โ€œIt really was himโ€ฆ who saved me!โ€

Grace raised her head, dazedly staring at the face inches from hers. โ€œBut why did you save me?โ€ she thought. โ€œHe didnโ€™t even come to town with me yesterday!โ€

โ€œSister, you called me,โ€ he replied with a faint smile. โ€œI rescued you. Luckily, I got there in time.โ€

โ€œAfter a single phone call, he traveled over a hundred kilometers to save me?!โ€

Grace felt an indescribable shock.

He carried her to the bed and carefully tucked her under the covers. โ€œYour hand was cut by the mirror shard. Itโ€™ll probably take a few days to heal. If thereโ€™s a scar, Iโ€™ll find the best doctors to remove it.โ€

Only then did Grace notice the bandage on her right hand. So distracted by the shocking revelations, she hadnโ€™t realized the dull pain.

โ€œHow much of yesterday do you remember, Sister?โ€ Jason asked seriously.

Grace bit her lip, not trying to hide anything. She relayed the events of the previous evening to Jason without reservation.

Jasonโ€™s expression darkened. โ€œHer relativesโ€ฆ they sold her to a fool! They have guts!โ€ he exclaimed. โ€œIf anyone dares to scheme against her, I wonโ€™t let them get away!โ€

Just then, Jasonโ€™s phone rang. He frowned at the caller ID, then turned to Grace. โ€œI lied about my identity. Apologize however you like, but youโ€™re hospitalized now; take care of yourself. Iโ€™ll get the doctor.โ€

Leaving the room, Jason instructed Terrence, who had been keeping watch outside: โ€œGrace is awake. Call the doctor.โ€

Only then did he answer his phone. Mr. Reedโ€™s voice boomed, โ€œWhy the delay?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m busy,โ€ Jason replied calmly.

โ€œRelated to the woman you saved?โ€ Mr. Reed asked frankly.

Jason wasnโ€™t surprised Mr. Reed knew. Heโ€™d been pressed for time the previous night and had informed the townโ€™s police. Heโ€™d mobilized their forces, and Graceโ€™s relatives and the others were still at the police station. The Old Masterโ€™s investigation had been simple.

โ€œWhatโ€™s your relationship with her?โ€ Mr. Reedโ€™s tone turned cold.

โ€œIโ€™m protecting her,โ€ Jason replied lazily. โ€œDonโ€™t touch her.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t forget how your father died!โ€ The Old Masterโ€™s voice rose. โ€œDo you want to follow in his footsteps?โ€

Jasonโ€™s expression darkened. โ€œDadโ€™s past is taboo to me!โ€

โ€œI havenโ€™t forgotten,โ€ Jason replied coldly. โ€œGrandpa, Iโ€™m not like Father. I wouldnโ€™t risk everything for a woman, so donโ€™t worry!โ€
