Chapter 116
After ending the call, Mr. Reed stared at the phone for a moment before handing it to the nurse.
โI shouldnโt worry? It would be wonderful if that were true, but sometimes his lack of self-awareness is terrifying. Just like my son all those years ago, who promised me, โDad, I will never abandon the Reed family's responsibilities for a woman.โ And yet, he ultimately abandoned the Reed family for a woman. He didn't even want to live!โ
โFind out who that woman is. I want every detail,โ Mr. Reed calmly ordered.
โYes,โ said a man in a black suit and gold-rimmed glasses, sitting in the corner, his fingers flying across his laptop keyboard.
Grace lay in her hospital bed, her mind racing. Too much had happened in a single day. The doctor and nurse had just performed basic tests, drawing blood and conducting examinations. They would determine her condition after receiving the blood test results later that afternoon.
A gentle knock came at the door, followed by a quiet push. Grace studied the young man in a suit and tie. He seemed kind and only a few years older than herself.
He smiled. โNice to meet you, Miss Cummins. Iโm Terrence, Jasonโs secretary. This is your phone and bag. Please check your bag to ensure nothing is missing.โ He placed her belongings on the storage space at her headboard. As he turned to leave, Grace called out, โWhoโฆ who is โJasonโ?โ
Terrence replied respectfully, โYouโll know when you need to, Miss Cummins. Iโm just the secretary.โ
Grace changed the subject. โDo you know the situation at my familyโs old residence?โ
Terrence answered directly. โYour uncles, aunt, and their families have been temporarily detained. Your grandfather was also detained, but he was released on bail due to his age and to care for your grandmother.โ
Grace was shocked. โI didnโt know so many people would be detained. At homeโฆ Grandma was the only one who supported me.โ The memory of the previous night brought a wave of bitterness.
โThe Miller family is also detained,โ Terrence added.
After Terrence left, Grace surveyed the spacious, high-class VIP ward. โA personal secretaryโฆ multiple doctors, all chief physicians, treating me with such care and respectโฆ It wasnโt my identity; itโs because I have Jasonโs support. Who the hell is Jason?!โ
Her confusion deepened. She picked up her bag from the headboard, realizing it had been left at her grandmotherโs house.
