Chapter 116

After ending the call, Mr. Reed stared at the phone for a moment before handing it to the nurse.

“I shouldn’t worry? It would be wonderful if that were true, but sometimes his lack of self-awareness is terrifying. Just like my son all those years ago, who promised me, ‘Dad, I will never abandon the Reed family's responsibilities for a woman.’ And yet, he ultimately abandoned the Reed family for a woman. He didn't even want to live!”

“Find out who that woman is. I want every detail,” Mr. Reed calmly ordered.

“Yes,” said a man in a black suit and gold-rimmed glasses, sitting in the corner, his fingers flying across his laptop keyboard.

Grace lay in her hospital bed, her mind racing. Too much had happened in a single day. The doctor and nurse had just performed basic tests, drawing blood and conducting examinations. They would determine her condition after receiving the blood test results later that afternoon.

A gentle knock came at the door, followed by a quiet push. Grace studied the young man in a suit and tie. He seemed kind and only a few years older than herself.

He smiled. “Nice to meet you, Miss Cummins. I’m Terrence, Jason’s secretary. This is your phone and bag. Please check your bag to ensure nothing is missing.” He placed her belongings on the storage space at her headboard. As he turned to leave, Grace called out, “Who… who is ‘Jason’?”

Terrence replied respectfully, “You’ll know when you need to, Miss Cummins. I’m just the secretary.”

Grace changed the subject. “Do you know the situation at my family’s old residence?”

Terrence answered directly. “Your uncles, aunt, and their families have been temporarily detained. Your grandfather was also detained, but he was released on bail due to his age and to care for your grandmother.”

Grace was shocked. “I didn’t know so many people would be detained. At home… Grandma was the only one who supported me.” The memory of the previous night brought a wave of bitterness.

“The Miller family is also detained,” Terrence added.

After Terrence left, Grace surveyed the spacious, high-class VIP ward. “A personal secretary… multiple doctors, all chief physicians, treating me with such care and respect… It wasn’t my identity; it’s because I have Jason’s support. Who the hell is Jason?!”

Her confusion deepened. She picked up her bag from the headboard, realizing it had been left at her grandmother’s house.
