Chapter 126
Lina stood, raising her hand. Zoe, unprepared, fell to the ground, the chair landing on her recovering leg. Zoe cried out in pain. The others rushed to help her.
"Lina, do you want this job anymore? How can you treat Miss Stevens like this?!" the director demanded angrily.
Lina sneered. "I don't want it. I'm earning a salary, not selling myself into slavery. Why should I tolerate this treatment?!"
Zoe retorted angrily, "You think you can resign and get away with this? I'll sue you for assault!"
"Go ahead. I'll sue you for deliberately hurting me! I'll get an injury assessment report immediately!" Lina retorted, waving her injured hand.
Zoe was presumptuous, but Lina was even more aggressive. Furious, Lina knew Zoe, unable to deal with Grace, had targeted her friend.
"Listen," Lina said. "Do you think Jason will support you just because he's supporting Grace? He's toying with her feelings! She's to blame for Jennifer's death. Do you think he'd be with someone who killed his fiancée?!"
Zoe's comment stunned Lina.
"Jason and Grace?" Lina asked, stepping forward and staring at Zoe. "What do you mean? Why would Jason support Grace? What do you mean he's toying with her feelings?"
Zoe realized she'd revealed a secret her brother had forbidden her to share.
"I I don't know what you're talking about," Zoe stammered, rising with the help of her crutch. She hurried away with her nurse.
The director followed, attempting to appease Zoe. Lina's colleagues blamed her, but she ignored them, pondering Zoe's words.
"Have Jason and Grace gotten together? If so, Grace would have told me! Moreover, Grace works at the Sanitation Service Center; her life is mundane. She couldn't have met Jason."
After Grace's release from prison, the only man she'd been in contact with was Jay, a homeless man she'd met on the streets. The name sparked a chilling thought.
"Jay Jason Could it be? Is this possible? If Jay is Jason Reed, why was he pretending to be homeless and near Grace? What's his motive?"
Lina's mind raced.
The next day, Grace was able to walk unassisted.
